Oprah Magazine: Female Teachers Who Have Sex with Students Are Misguided Poor Souls Looking for Love...
August 27th, 2008 by Glenn Sacks
"Sex with students is bad, but why should it be the case that for women it's a case of 'poor boundaries' and for men it's hardcore brutal predation of the most evil sort?"

I wish more pedophile teachers looked like Debbie LaFave. Unfortunately, the majority of them look like this jewel of a woman.

It is interesting that woman are not seeing as "offensive" as men in committing this sexual crimes.

as a teacher, it is part of your *job* to create a boundary between yourself and the students... hurting inside is not reason enough to put a child into that kind of situation, let alone another consenting adult. looking for love? even depressed, the majority of women know the rules of who, when and where. it is insulting to women.

Her being treated and considered "beautiful" and "attractive in student eyes" is one of the reasons behind growing number of female teacher having illegal sexual affairs with kids they are supposed to teach.

I consider myself quite lucky with the teachers I had at school. Without exepcetion the few female teachers all had faces like a frogs backside and I no inclination to fancy them.

However if the woman is guilty of soliciting sex with her students she is no more than a prostitue and should receive the same punishment as the male psyhco regardless of the fact whether she is pretty or attractive to the young male students. Likewise if she is of lesbian orientation and ensnares the young female student

So should we also say male teachers Who Have Sex with Students Are Misguided Poor Souls Looking for Love... I think not!

I cannot believe Oprah would actually defend such behaviour, but I have not read the article. In any case, it should not make a difference to our judgement whether people who sexually abuse children and teenagers are male or female - or whether they are attractive or not!!!

And over-defensive to say that these women live in a world of "magical thinking" as if that somehow sanctions the wrongdoing.

every 1 has responsibility for the actions if you brake the law you should be ready to pay for your actions.

It's different, there is a legitimate double standard for this particular issue.

I had an affair with a 39 year old women when I was 16 and I can't blame her at all. I knew what I was getting into and was just as much responsible.

On the other hand when older guys seduce young girls it turns into lies and brainwashing. It's all about manipulation and some dude trying to live out his perverted fantasies.

It's a mutual thing when it is an older woman and younger man but is just selfish and disgusting when the older guy does it to a younger girl.

The thing is cases of women molesting boys is sorely under reported due to the stigma attached.Sexual molestation is unacceptable and emotionally damaging no matter what the kids sex is.

Lets be honest, I highly doubt Oprah wrote the specific article.

As to the discrepancy it is ridiculous to think that the situation is different. Teachers are in a position of authority and teenagers are impressionable it is a heady mix.

First, I have no sympathy for evil people who treat other human beings with such disrespect and abuse their position of power. Woman or man, pedophilia is wrong. Sleeping with your underage student is wrong. Full Stop.
Second, I'm quite shocked that Oprah Magazine would publish a story that seems to have sympathy for this kind of behaviour. Sure Oprah didn't write it, but it's got her big O brand all over it.

Oprah is an idiot. Having Sex with Underage is not allowed. End of the Conversation.

Someone tell the lady in the Pic I can play teenage for her...

Well, I think the key is if it was rape or not. Boys are almost always ready for sex and who wouldn't want to get with teacher? On the other hand, girls seldom think of sex or want it from an older man (I'm talking 13 and under).

Notes on a Scandal comes to mind. See it if you haven't already.

Yes, I'm aware boys are still able to be raped, but most of the time they want sex.

"But most of these women come from conflict-ridden families where they didn't learn healthy social skills. Many learned to get their emotional needs—for love, attention, approval—met through sexual behavior." Once they start teaching, if faced with some kind of serious stressor (marital problems, for example) in addition to the right child sitting in their class, it's not a far leap to sex offender.

An impending divorce helped push 27-year-old Pamela Rogers into getting intimate with her 13-year-old student in 2004, says Joan Schleicher, a Nashville forensic psychologist who testified in court on her behalf. "She was demoralized and feeling empty inside, and he was the one to whom she could turn her attention." As the relationship progressed, Rogers (a former homecoming queen now serving an eight-year sentence) began, as many of these women do, to live in a world of "magical thinking," Schleicher says. "And she responded to that instead of the rules of society."

None of the experts condone the teachers' actions, but they do have sympathy. "I don't think she's a sexual predator," Schleicher says of Rogers. "I see her as a really hurting adult who needs help. I just hope she can get it."

For the most part, people see women as less violent, more sensitive; truthfully, though, they know exactly what they're doing when they do something wrong. We can't excuse a person of a wrong-doing because she's a woman, or because she's pretty, or whatever the case may be. All circumstances are different of course. For instance, student teachers can be just a few years older than high school seniors, but all the same, it's a boundary that shouldn't be crossed. It breaks through a line between teachers and students, and almost always, rumors spread like wildfire. My point is this; some cases may hold more wrong-doing than others, but in the end a crime was still committed. Whether the student made the first move or not, it's the teacher's duty as an educator and an adult to refuse. Whether that educator is male or female, romantic relationships with students are still wrong, and I highly doubt that they are about "lost souls looking for love."

Child molestation is child molestation, wheter it's a woman or a man doing it.
    Any other policy is sexist.

Oprah is on crack and she's feeding it to her public. Anyone who listens to her, especially in this situation, they are pretty much ignorant and naive. Men aren't the only ones who commit crimes such like these.

Very, very, stupid of Oprah to say and support.

I can't believe there are people out there who want us to believe that female teachers who seduce their students are just lost souls looking for love. This is total hogwash, if you are a teacher you are intrusted by the parents and the schools to be a supervisor, not a friend of the children in your class. If you cross the boundary between teacher student relations you are a pedophile regardless of gender!

Just a note, I'm really sick of the misuse of the word "pedophile." These women had sex with teenage students, not prepubescent ones. Pedophilia is a "sexual interest is toward pre-pubescent youths only and does not include teenagers."

Now that we've cleared that up, please carry on.
