Topless dancing on fourth plinth crashes website [VIDEO]

Dare I say it, the Antony Gormley 'art' project that allows randoms an hour on top of Trafalgar Square's empty fourth plinth, and that's been running all summer, has been a bit dull.

So it comes as no surprise that Stringfellow's dancer Naomi MacDonald drew the biggest crowd to the plinth so far after she got her kit off and gyrated around a pole under the watchful gaze of Nelson and his column, National Gallery-goers and a couple of coppers.

According to the Guardian, news of her topless performance spread like swine flu and actually caused the Sky Arts website that's hosting the live feed from the plinth, to crash under the weight of horny voyeurs.

Being ignorant of public decency laws it surprised me that topless entertainment was allowed in such a public spot, but I'm now assured that the nudity itself isn't the crime. She'd have had to cause a complaint for her to be told off, but no complaints were made. And I can see why; hubba hubba.

    • I kind of like Gormleys idea for this project, at least its getting a more of a reaction than the previous plinth stunts and seems fitting for the moment.

    • It's not the first time a lady has got topless on the plinth and given the broadsheets something to salivate over in the name of art.

in July, the Telegraph reported (with video) that "one brave [topless] plinther daubed herself in black and red paint to create a work of art."
