    • Never thought I'd find myself saying this but...
Kevin Costner: Prince Of Thieves is still the best Robin Hood adaptation.

Can't believe that was 20 years ago!

    • I have a feeling that this film will not beat Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, but it does make a change to see the violent dark side of things.

    • I can't wait to see the movie!! Though, it's going to be difficult to live up to the quality of Gladiator. The action sequences from the trailer look good, but it's going to need a solid story to live up to the hype.

    • Meaning nothing offensive, but frankly, who gives a flying frack
whether it lives up to the hype ? The hype was promoted by yet
other promoters trying to promote the movie. And they're not nearly
as drunk as I need to be to get my infusion of life giving yeasts. So...

What really is material, is that the movie is genuinely entertaining.
Because if it is, it will be memorable. Being a cinephile, I've seen
literally thousands of movies in the past 60 plus years. Most are
largely forgettable. I get the idea they were made to be forgettable.
They likely wouldn't want you still remembering, and being distracted
by someone's else's previous movie while you're watching theirs.
Still more often than not you can discern a high point in many movies
that shows how good it got. An inspired director's guidance, and an
actor's ionspiration is everything. I've seen lots of movies where great
actors were wasted. And lots of movies are so borderline being rated
2 and 1/2 stars that they're better educational material than many of
the course classes I was present to be bored with in school. A student,
my ass. There's no worthwhile story that can be told that good digital
photography, a cast of thousands of otherwise unemployed extras,
and decent catering can't accomplish. Channel the hype through Skype.

As William Shakespeare, who came from humble beginnings and sought
to become landed gentry in the " Franklin class " as the squire of his mannor
by prolificly producing popular literature said: " The play's the thing "
      So...Let's get reel.

    • I'm trying to convince myself to not see any movies that are not original ideas. No movie based on anything: books, tv shows, videogames, comic books etc. Robin Hood has been done so many goddam times, it's impossible that this movie will be good by my standards.

    • Nope. But I will want to buy the entire Trilogy as the Director's Cut
on DVD. Scuttlebut has it this is going to be a trilogy like Star Wars.
That's why they're gearing it for the epic panorama vista. He hasn't
made a dud yet that I've seen imho, so this should get the blood flowing.

Ya sure ya betcha. Good to have a woman's perspective. Being
the fiery constellation male type I like action oriented epic dramas
set in Historical events. And this Trilogy looks like they realy made it
to sell Director's Cut DVDs. But as it is May, and I'm descended from
farmers & carpenters my blueberries, strawberries and blackberries
are of more interest to me at home. And will be even sweeter this Winter
after I buy a dehydrator. Keeping it real is my theme for May.

PressCore , enjoy your epic drama ! Gender aside , I am not much of a spectator . And I like decent food especially if i don't have to cook it . If I get snowed in or something , yeah , maybe . If I do get fascinated by an image idea archetype , I know that is a direction I need to integrate into my life path . I got cucumbers , tomatoes , strawberries , raspberries , sweet onions , parsley , chives , basil (still inside) lettuce , peas , sunflowers , and radishes . Very busy .

    • Gladiator in tights. "Robin and Marion" was the definitive Robin Hood movie. Sean Connery was Robin and Marion was played by Audrey Hepburn. Beat that.

I can't beat that, but to comment on that movie recorded on my Dish DVR.
The one scene I recall from having seen the movie decades ago is the scene
where 2 men on horseback come out of the woods and fire arrows from their bows.
The sound of arrows cutting through the air is blood curdling enough for any
homo sapiens predator with a reptile brain stem to last him a lifetime. It shows
hands down why the English Saxons with their longbows were the best light
artilarymen in the world, on a par with the Amercian Indians, to conquer the world.
The sheer stealth of an arrow only sounding off when it neared the target per se
was enough to heads up anyone constantly.

Yeah, arrows work better than most silencers. Almost as nasty as swords they are. But, then again, you can catch more flies with honey, than you can with vinegar. But, dead squirrels work the best. Did I used to have a hot tub??? Wasn't the real Robin Hood originally from New Zealand? And why does this spell checker not have Zealand in it?

No doubt questions being mused on by yogis seeking the meaning of life.
I'm still pondering the great life question of why men go nuts over hooters.
Rots of ruck on that one even for me. Even science may never unlock that mystery.

    • I've heard people in the UK are having trouble locating what accent Crowe used. People say it changes from areas like Scotland, Dublin to Newcastle and on Kermodes film review show they said it's a bit of a big continuity mistake.

    • Second Aussie to do the role... Errol Flynn and then him.
      Except Crowe's really a New Zealander. :)
It looks horrible. Like Braveheart and Gladiator. I hate these modern medieval epics.
The worst bit is the completely hackneyed left-wing nationalist subtext of the little guy commoner taking on the aristocracy and tyranny of the establishment in a brave, selfless and heroic fashion for the good of the people. It's so awful because it's such a horrible mismatch with the subject-matter. My OWN views are left-wing but I hate propaganda and I hate that people like Ridley Scott mess up great historical fantasy stories with his lame cliches.
