What different types of toilets have you encountered while traveling?

In your travels have you come across toilets you weren’t used to? Have you ever found yourself without access to toilets altogether? How did the community you visited handle the complex issues tied to public health when it came to open defecation?

For inspiration, check out this sneak peek at Adam Yamaguchi's Vanguard episode, "World's Toilet Crisis," airing on Current TV Wednesday, June 9 at 10/9c.

    • My intersting toilet expirience was in Louvre, in Paris. they have old fashioned toilets with a hole in a ground and two stands for your feet. I think, that they named them "Genuya toilet"?

    • i don't love the public toilets in Morocco but I love the self cleaning ones that you find in small towns in Europe...or, I certainly found them several years ago...

    • I think I posted my comment in the above mentioned link.
The most common used toilets are:
Western Style Seat Commode. [The Seat]
      Indian Style Commode.
Peshawar Style [Afghani] Commode. [A pathway between your legs, the toilets are in a row. Meaning the person shitting in the last toilet can see floating shits of others]
Open Air. [360 Degree Shitting View :D] [Behind a bush or in an open field away from public. Rocks or soil is used to clean the business part. Nowadays a water container is used]

Almost all the Mosques in Pakistan have toilets. Since, every community has a Mosque, I rarely find myself in a tough situation. However, when you're away from civilization, a bush and some rocks can easily take care of the problem.

Hygiene is maintained at all times.

    • The outhouses I always hate when I go see my relatives in Mexico... They're just planks with a hole to do as you need, over a giant hole...

    • This is a common toilet in France. I was told it's called a "Turkish Toilet," but not sure if that's just derogatory or a real description. I'm guessing the former.
