There is nothing shameful about sex or the noises that accompany it. To be ashamed/embarrassed of the noises you make during an action is a tell that you feel likewise to the action.

I would say the involved parties had best BOTH really appreciate the same piece of music.
( It was my assumption that would be the case,....and the presence of music was mutually desired. Me,... Ive always kind of wanted several praetorian guardsmen in full dress clanging out a rhythm with swords on shields ,...and the crackle of roaring torches,......perhaps the moans of dying Christians......ok, perhaps a bit too far. )

I'm saying that the music itself is a disconnect for the more proper human experience of sex. Even if both parties agree to it, they at best are mutually disrespecting each other (otherwise known as fuck buddies).

Don't get me wrong; I completely understand the overwhelming passion that music can evoke, yet if we are dependent upon it to feel compassion with our significant other...
then I feel that something important in the relationship is lost.

I would also like to point out that; yes, for a long term relationship there are different kinds of sex/fucking. The grudge fuck vs. the makeup sex vs. S&M play vs. any other variation that exists. So at time; sure music can/should be used, but to always rely on music is a support for some other problem in your relationship.

My point is; use reality for inspiration in your life to enhance your existence, but do not rely on any one solution. Do not fall victim to the false assumption that one thing can fix everything. If you apply this ideology to your entire life, then I am sure you will find your true measure of happiness...

I hope that clarifies my stance on the issue; and this is what I believe Dr. Ruth is trying to express.

Fuck buddies can care about and have a deep respect for each other. I've had one before and we never used music and I really loved him (not to be confused with "in love"), but it was a bad time for both of us. We were both "in love" with other people who were unavailable, emotionally and physically for different reasons.

I'm sure that is true in some cases, but not all. I once had a very tender moment with a partner and the music in the background was perfect. No words, just an instrumental piece by NIN (Another Version of the Truth). It would have been great by itself, but the music just amplified everything searing the moment into my mind. Just thinking of it is making me tear up a bit.

I understand where your coming from. What I'm trying to express is that one should not rely on music, and not that a person should avoid playing music altogether. I get where people are coming from with this in general, so I'm trying to point out where Dr. Ruth is coming from. I think if we understand both points then we can get to the real answer, which is somewhere in the middle.
