Should the US be more focused on projects to improve technology and infrastructure?
Last week the Australian Parliament passed a bill to build a high-speed national broadband network.
Should the US be giving serious consideration to similar plans? Are investments in technology and infastructure a worthwhile idea to boost the economy while offering benefits for citizens?

Canned water pressure brought up from the deep ocean can power flying cars and flying backpacks. I thought I'd write that since this thread seems to be an old Sears Roebuck "wish book" catalogue.
Oh, it can power cars too. When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are-e-e-e. Build another Hubble we live in a bubble zippity doo dah zippity eh my Oh my what a wonderful day, mr bluebird on your shoulder everything is copacetic => a Messiah leads us named Obama the First and he hates your oopsie guts.

absolutely. of course the multinationals and banks that run the US might want to throw us a bone, and make the internet truly accessible for all. but i doubt it. that doesnt mean to give up the fight though. we need more warriors to stand up for freedom and end corruption in government, wealth warfare against the impoverished and global unity and peace.

No, we need to hunt down and remove corruption in Corporate America first.
If we don't any new technology will be used as a tool to hurt the middle class more.

Yes but only in so much as it will actually improve peoples lives. I think doing projects for the sake of saying there's something being done or to provide people with jobs making or doing things that are not necessary is as bad as, if not worse than, doing nothing at all. It's like building a new shopping center next to an old shopping center that's less than half full. Some people look at it and call it "progress" but not I. Truthfully, I wish more people thought like Lloyd Dobler from Say Anything when it comes to this stuff!

When the economy i going south that is the best time to build and rebuild infrastructure. Its something that needs to be done and it is a good way to create jobs and pour money into the economy at the right level. Trickle down economics do not work, look at the Hoover administration. However if you shore up the base of the economy, the workers, then you give your economy a fighting chance. Now is the time to rebuild roads work on ageing systems, upgrade what needs to be upgraded. I really dont know why the government has not already built a massive push on infrastructure, its good for the country in all ways, it is work that needs done and who can say no to creating jobs.

YES.
But, it is never going to happen.
This country is filled with people with no concept of the greater good. They simply scream "don't tax me! I want to horde every penny!" Without realizing that taxes go towards things that benefit them directly or indirectly.

What we need to do is embrace a State Capitalist model that will establish state run ventures for alternative energies and other high tech firms along with state run ventures for Sugar ethanol. All State run companies would start off 100% public for a certain amount of time only to see a slow process of privatization with things like a Public-Private Partnership like in Brazil and eventually a fully functioning private firm that has helped in creating hundreds of thousands of jobs. Of course, people would call such ideas Socialist LOL.

sounds like a 'no brainer', right? we had the same data telling us that in the 70's energy crisis would worsen, it did. die we learn anything? apparently not, so as history repeats itself once again corporations will buy our government and we will go to war over water, not oil.

I want to say yes. But even if we create a high-speed highway, we're still going to get charged for it by Viacom, Comcast, Warner, etc, etc.
Otherwise the Gubbament will be competing against real industries. Forcing them to lower their prices. *gasp* ohh noz.Also...what is the benefit of high speed internet for those who already have it?
Faster internet? So, instead of waiting 1.5 seconds for a Youtube video to buffer, I then wait 1.25 seconds? While, I think the enthusiasm is great, I think it's the wrong directions.
Energy farms would be better.
Better devices have been created for harvesting wind energy, which resembles a ribbon.
-The wind causes it to vibrate violently and when combined in a series can provide as must( if not more) than one of those Giant windmills.
It would take up the no more space of where the old TV Antenna on your roof was.
- Magnetic Electric Generators. - these things can be build from old car parts and things found at your local hard ware store. Instructions can be found in multiple places on google. Working models can be viewed on Youtube.
These things require a small motor to get them started, and then perpetually generate electricity.-Lightning Storms. Guess what, mother nature doesn't need oil to create electricity.
She uses common materials found abundantly all over the world: dirt, water, and heat.
When someone figures out how to make and contain lightning storms, in their own back year, we can have truly free energy.
Nature automatically converts water and heat into electricity. Don't you think it would be easier to build a lightning storm than to create a mini-Sun. ???
-Wise up scientists. You know what I think would stimulate the economy and technology race?
-Education.
Make College cheaper. Send people to school so we can get more doctors/scientists/engineers.
It will make Health Care a lot cheaper, that's for sure.
One reasons Doctors charge so much is because they've got college debts to pay.Everything is connected.

Investment in projects that will last. Rebuild the steel industry, high speed rail lines and improve more roads. This could include building outsource centers for search optimization and social media marketing in smaller less expensive towns. Much of this is now done in India. Google has their servers in The Dalles, Oregon but does not list one job for search marketing or social media falling short of their promise to hire more people. I like the WPA Federal Writer’s Project. This could be online today offering education for all, with Internet text books at very little cost. A class like this on how to set up a Facebook fan page could be partially paid for by the government. http://www.crowdconversion.com/?11691

We need a second round of improvements like the TVA improvements of the 30's. They should focus on clean renewable energy and hopefully strengthen this countries power grid (PA's is outdated and very shitty)
Also fix the road systems, again PA has AWFUL roads - 1 year ago

Instead of trying to keep their heads above water in this "imperial overreach" they've got themselves into, they should focus more on their own country. It's in dire need.

High speed rail would be so great! I hate to fly (even before the latest TSA nonsense; I'm one of those people who feels she has to try to hold the plane up in the air with her mind) but there's a limit to how far I can drive. High speed rail would make travel much more awesome. And possible.

I believe the high speed rail was waiting for power to be beamed down by the new Japanese receiver out in Space. Right now it sort of looks like increased solar radiation will likely melt the Japs new machine into plastic slag.
They could've powered the trains with my Blast o' Wind air+steam dynamo engine system. My engine is an advanced steam engine that relegates steam to being a lesser support catalyst to the compressed air. The compressed air becomes what steam used to be => the "Prime Mover".
Steam flushes solid air from the cylinder with a lower pressure, so that when the compressed air is injected instead of hitting a pillow of air in the cylinder that squashes horsepower the H2O in the steam collapses away from the cold air, so the air is blasting forth and the steam is blasting away even faster, and both slam into the piston head.
hehehehe Smaller weight engine + higher horsepower + less moving parts to wear out = the winning engine, except of course they preferred doing business with the Japanese.
Using my engine would look like Americans are still smart.
