What do you think of the repeal of "Don't Ask Don't Tell"?
Over the weekend, the Senate voted to repeal "Don't Ask Don't Tell," a move that will allow gays and lesbians to serve openly in the military. President Obama has expressed support for the repeal, although due to procedural steps necessary for implementation, it will not take effect for 60 days.
What do you think of the repeal?

Thank you Mr. President and those members of Congress who worked to have this policy repealed.

It's an honor to serve my country, and I've helped so many people as a hospital corpsman in the United States Navy. I love my job, and I am pleased about the policy being repealed.

Honestly, "don't ask don't tell" should not have been an issue to begin with. Why should someone's sexual orientation affect how they or others will perform in dangerous situations?

YES! Now gay people can openly be minions of the war machine! One step forward for equality, 10 steps backwards for world peace indeed.

This is great for equality and all, but we should all be asking "equality for what?" This just means the military will have the ability to hold on to more of their goons to further their agenda. Government, and our military industrial complex, are immoral institutions indeed.

I still don't see how this is a win for gays... I mean, at best, now they can openly be gay AND murder brown people in other countries. Or die openly gay....
It's a step in the right direction, but it seems as though too many people are ignoring the bigger picture, as usual.

I belive in the military in which is all "meat heads" and with so many civilian killings and the killing of fellow soldier Pat Tillman should have been a clue that many gays might die in the military due to many soldiers being homophobic!!!

I agree with aquamammal. I find it quite shocking that people are so thrilled at this apparent progress of humanity. Look at the bigger picture. 1) We still have an organization of thugs with a monopoly on the use of force. 2) We still have a massive military industrial complex using that organization to fund through force and violence it's warmongering, murdering and empire building ways that benefit the politically connected and uberrich elite at the expense of the surfs.
How does it matter that gay individuals can now openly be a part of this disgusting scam? How are gay people excited about this????? It's so reminiscent of when slaves were granted the right to worship at church every Sunday so they'd be more productive. This, much like this DADT scam, was looked at as progress, yet they were STILL SLAVES!
I'm for equal rights for ALL people, but I'm also for looking at the bigger picture.

1 step for gays to kill themselves for the machine, 10 steps backwards overall for world peace.
LGBT movements should be standing in solidarity with oppressed peoples of the world, not enlisting to murder them. What a waste.

You joined an institution that reinforces regressive trade/monetary policies, human rights violations, and mass destruction of indigenous and marginalized peoples.
If you thought it was a good choice, you were wrong.
Tell me again why we worked for this? The military is a fucked mechanism, so it's only natural that it will enforce gender binaries and other shit things, don't that DADT repeal is going to change that. It doesn't matter if you are LGBT or not, you join the military you are as good as dead, drone bastids.
Got rid of DADT, but we lost the dream act, something that actually would have benefited and helped kids stay out of the military. Go figure.
