The food pyramid has been dismantled. What do you think of the new guidelines from the USDA?
Remember the food pyramid from your childhood? That memory is going to date you pretty soon. The USDA has released new guidelines for nutrition. The new, simplified guidelines take the form of a plate showing how much of your plate should be taken up by the various food groups. That means the pyramid has gone the way of, well, The Pyramids as it's now an ancient relic.
What do you think of the new guidelines? Will they help in the fight against obesity, or do they miss the mark?

Heck, I remember when there were seven food groups. I think the new guidelines are more straight forward. Will they reduce obesity? Doubtful. The culture has to change.

I never pay attention to the food pyramid really. Food and nutrition is different for everybody. Nutrition is not a one format fits all deal. Some need more starches some need less.

I think it really simplifies nutrition for families. Its quite possibly the most idiot proof application of the information.

back in the day
when we played Reno in sports
it was an 80 mile trip that took less than an hour
(no speed limit in Nevada and the gas wars dropped fuel to 25 cents a gallon)the place to chow in Reno was Arctic Circle
19 cents a burger (McDonalds was 21 cents)Arctic Circle flogged their burger with the "secret sauce"
it was pink and tasted like salad dressing (big secret)anyway
i was 16
by the time i hit 19, i had of course realized, Corporate America and
Madison Avenue were selling to idiots (i was one... i admit it)
and
nothing has changed in 40 yearsCorporate American, Madison Avenue and your government
(Republican branch)
are selling you a bill of goods in nutrition and life that are NOT in your best interestso
vote Democrat for any and all Senate seats
(the House will return to Dems non-problema... it's the Senate that really matters)*thank ya, thank ya verymuch (elvis)*

I'm thanking Michelle Obama for beginning a revolution to get fit. Changing the pyramids is a great start. The plate offers better understanding of nutrition guidelines. The health of every American should be a concern. Our eating habit are shameful. Our exercise routine is non-existent. Thank you Mrs Obama for all you do.

Why do our "elected leaders" really think that a new design is really going to help people? They are the ones providing us with GMO laced poisons. If they really cared about the health of the American public don't you think they might want to start by taking out the ingredients in our food made in laboratories? I don't see anything good about this new food graph pyramid thing. A separate section for protein? Hello, I get plenty of protein in my whole grain plant powered diet. O, and a separate place for dairy on the side? Right I forget because how in the world is it possible to get all the necessary vitamins, minerals, and proteins out of foods that comes from the earth. Food that comes from the earth, the same earth that people come from. Everything we need to sustain our species is in abundance in nature. The way it was meant to be. So it really is a shame to think that the best agricultural land on the planet exists in the American midwest, and is used primarily for GMO crops. Crops that give seeds that will be totally useless, and actually aid to the destruction of developing nations that care about the value of plants based nutrients, and who would do anything for good seeds to provide for there families, and communities.
Carbohydrates are one of the most important compounds to have in our diets. They provide us with fiber, and many vitamins that are required to fuel our bodies all day long. Everyone just has to make it their responsibility to eat complex carbohydrates, not simple sugary ones. There is no doubt about the repercussions that will be felt after in taking them.
Now don't get me wrong. I enjoy dairy, and meat, but it's all about quality. Products that contain hormones and pesticides should not be supplemented what nature intended for us.
I don't have all the answers, no one does, and i'm not trying to sound like a smart ass or no-it-all. Everyone should just try and make it their responsibilities as a guest on the earth to try and sustain, and better it. Shop local for non GMO products. Items that are organic as possible in minimal packaging, and nothing that cause hormones and pesticides to be unleashed upon our lovely home. I know it an be expensive, but money talks. So keep voting with it, and over time the demand for a supply of wholesome foods will drive the market in a direction that will effectively cause less of an impact on our planet, and more of a community feeling across the globe!
Thanks for reading if your hear you probably already think like me. It would be cool if current did a special on how this stuff actually gets to our table.

Look if your eating fast food or food that does not come with a peeling or husk then you are not eating right. Stuff in a can or TV dinners are POISON! I know I don't eat right and have Health problems to prove it. But i don't expect to get out alive. Well I die of cancer or a heart attack?? I don't know But We all die at sometime in this Cycle of life. All I ask is that you leave nothing but tracks. Be happy Be Kind to others. Love the mean people it pisses them off. Peace and Love My friends :)

Americans have never had it as bad as the rest of the world. They have never been invaded or Bombed for days on end. We are a throw away and buy a new one society. Most have never seen what it is like to go without because there was none to be had. We as a society waste more than some countries have all togeather. I would like to see more small farms pop up but most don't know how to grow a crop or just how much work it takes to get the crop to produce. life in the real world is hard and most Americans just don't care about Others.

from pyramid to pie
looks like USDA is getting 'round to branding change...and
they continually leave out the body of knowledge built from:Arnold Ehret in the 20's
George Ohsawa from the 40's - 60's
Francis Moore Lappe in the 70's
Peter D'Adomo in the 90's - 12 months ago

Well since most of it is GMOs and covered in pesticides, I think they missed the mark by a mile if they are using a plate icon or any icon to promote "good health." As long as they are big ag and big chemical's b**ch, they have no credibility to me.

The new dietary guidelines for nutrition from the USDA are simpler to understand than the pyramid. Having said that, I don't think it will make much of a difference in the "fight against obesity". Most people do not use the USDA recommendations to decide what they will eat.
