Ten years later, what has changed since 9/11?
It's been 10 years since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. In the years since, what has changed? What have we learned?

We have become a country that no longer values the American worker, has spit in the face of its' first great general by condoning torture, and spit again in the face of that General as President by becoming enmeshed in "foregin entanglements" because of our insatiable love of money.

The printed word is dying for one thing. Publishers like Infinity Studios, Wizard (though online now) Tokyopop (though barely kicking) to name a few.
We now have 3G, & 4G in some places. TechTV is gone, & G4 is off DirecTV.
The financial regulations that were in place after the Great Depression are also gone, & we suffered from it. - 8 months ago

i was out of country during 9/11
when i returned in '04
i had, at first, strange visitation to my door asking odd questions
my e-mail was shut down to my access for a few days
then
all was easy and smooth like no thing happenedi had the very naked feeling i had been scanned upside down and backwards
but
i also realized why and accepted it
(my sister worked at a nuclear power plant)
however
the experience left we with the "big brother" syndrome
meaning
i don't walk out into the woods to relieve myself
(spy satellites ya know. if google can show you the roof of your house,
imagine what the NSA can see) - 8 months ago

Everything has changed. I no longer recognize this country. No, we haven't learned a thing. I will again post Chris Hedges great article about 9/11 called "A Decade After 9/11: We've Become What We Loathe."

how did we become our abusive parent?

First, I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. We became our abusive parent because our abusive parents were the leaders of this country. They fanned the flames of hatred and the country followed their lead. If our president or vice president would've been men of peace, we wouldn't be where we are today.

Thank you. It does beg the question of course - what was another way of responding?
When we demonstrated against them going to war we used the set up something like: When Albright was asked by a British reporter whether it was acceptable that a quarter of a million Iraqi children were killed in the war, she said yes - for what we needed to do.
I don't think the same question has been asked of Bush et al ... that would be interesting ... - 8 months ago

Oh, I see Madeline Albright can be a real treat, too. That's terrible what she said about Iraqi children. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. It was an illegal and immoral war. You don't respond by attacking the wrong country or any country for that matter. I suggest watching "John O'Neil--"The Man Who Knew."
"I don't think the same question has been asked of Bush et al ... that would be interesting ..."
Those evil assholes would find a way to justify it.

Yes Ms. Albright sort of deafened my eardrum with that one. Let's face it - it is tough hearing a woman take that position. But to be fair, I think that she has spoken on the subject with regret.
Well attacking Iraq was opportunistic on Bushes part ... you were right in your first statement ... they wanted that. I recall 2 directors of the humanitarian care from the UN resigned, sighting that the war effort and 'as not yet told military presence' in Iraq were in complete opposition to what their mission was. Then subsequently, I think the lead person who ran oversight for the audit for the WMD before the war (was he UN?) wrote, printed his own book and distributed it for free saying: THERE ARE NO WMDs that is crazy. The funniest one I saw was the moveon.org's documentary where all the ex CIA agents are like - what are you saying? We didn't do our jobs? there are no WMDs.
yeah ... I think it would be interesting to see them get that question ... justifications and all

Sadly, we have shown we are vulnerable to fear. We should show more courage and preserve our freedom.

We're poorer, less free and people still want to kill us. Whatever changes that were made for the better sure come across as being far outweighed by the changes for the worse.

I read through what you had here, and I have another friend who has felt her emotional strings yanked too. For myself, my friend died in 911, and so I mostly avoid all of it. What I have found out about things such as this is that very concrete evidence has to become available. Or someone in the know has to give evidence with tractable evidence. The folks who faked the famous Big Foot photo finally came forward after the guy who actually did it died .... so who knows?

I was actually thinking about this ... this is very much the tact to take I would guess ... it will require -- like anything that is legal -- a real sleuthing.
I don't necessarily agree that "the mother's milk of politics" is the essential thing that is needed. But rather that the 'team' that comes together has a lot of knowledge and a lot of skill sets across multiple areas, one of which would be different evaluation methodologies from which to build the alternative explanation of what happened with information that can be asserted as valid, reliable and credible. Which the way that these committees function, can't happen.... or right now they can't. Very much anthropological in this way, but the break through will happen if someone comes forth -- at which point the context has already been assembled.
thanks for posting.

We are not safer, I actually think we are less safe. Even after the death of Bin Laden, we are in 2 wars that are the longest in our history. The problem with fighting these wars is that you are not fighting a country, you are fighting an idea, and those are bullet proof.
