The Democratic party is trying to woo Occupy Wall Street protesters; will it work?
The Occupy Wall Street protests are continuing to gain momentum and Democrats are already looking for ways to mobilize protesters for the upcoming election. Only one problem: the Democratic party has more than a few ties to Wall Street.
Can the Democrats win over the Occupy Wall Street protesters? Would it result in any shift in policy?

I see no reason for the Democrats to woo the 99%er's, they already have them.
“Occupy Wall Street” is the result of reckless, irresponsible capitalism which is fed by greed which has become a precious, valued aspiration and has displaced human and moral decency in what’s most important in life. This can be evidenced by capitalistic displacement of our eco-system and health concerns through bio-engineering of seeds (and also the patenting thereof by the likes of Monsanto and granted permission to do so by the SCOTUS with the majority decision written by Justice Clarence Thomas, who previously was employed by Monsanto), with the use of antibiotics in large scale animal food production. It’s evidenced in the request and desire for fewer regulations and by the demand to disband the EPA. It’s evidenced by illnesses, deaths and diseases attained through air pollution and chemical waste and when an individual or group of individuals attempts to recover losses through our court system they face sometimes insurmountable obstacles presented by corporate lawyers to purposely lengthen the justice process which they can easily afford financially but the individual or group of individuals cannot easily afford and it results in much smaller and very unjust and belittling monetary awards/settlements due to the lack of competitive financial resources which shows disrespect for humanity by capitalistic greed and is forced to even greater extremes and injustices through tort reform. Corporations, through financial influence, purchase political power and reengineer our laws to benefit their shareholders and their bottom lines at the expense and with disdain towards the miracle of life itself. Both political party’s bear responsibility, however the extreme disrespect for humanity and the earth we see today is squarely on the shoulders of the Republican Party and their relationship with large corporations.

Wrong end of he question. The banks want OWS to go away. If unions or the dem party can help with resources that keep the movement alive, how stupid would OWS have to be to say no? The issue is strings (declared and un-delcared), but with no leaders, how do you corrupt? I say use stuff from anyone who says they do so with no expectations and give them nothing but love back! ;-)

Certainly hope not... More veiled elitism to come if they do...
Maybe we can increase drone strikes even more...
Or detain or execute everyone who farts...
Tap everyones phones....
Add about 200 more foreign bases across the globe and officially accept the title of "Empire"... I'm sure Fluor (the company that won the bidding against Haliburtun to rebuild everything) would love that....

Not interested in the Dems giving any more speeches...because next they will be bleeding solidarity...all they need to do is act to correct the issues that are clearly at the heart of this movement...and the 99% will see that they are sincere...they are starting to come around, but they still want involvement to be on their terms and by the old rules of engagement etc. Both parties got us here and they can get us out of this mess or start looking for new jobs...and good luck on that...

Imho, no, it won't work. As one of our current.com community members
(Jubal) once aptly put it , if the sheeple ever wake up to realize the
pendulum has been swinging from Democrat to Republican, back again
because that's the way the Corporatists want their 2 party illusion to
appear...those same sheeple will realize that apparent movement from
side to side is only an illusion. The only movement the USA has made
since 1965 is down. The Corporatists have dominated American politics
since Theodore Roosevelt was in the White House, and have such a
Monopoly control over both parties that Democrat vs Republican has
pretty much come to mean pro Government vs anti Government. We've
had a very conflicted one party system running the USA into the ground
like a rusted winter rat for 46 years. With proposed statutes over 1,000
pages long, written by Corporate interests, they don't even have time
to read what they're greased to vote on. We're saddled with a big money
corrupted substitute for honest Government by either side. Both are a joke. - 7 months ago

Democrats aren't trying hard enough and (yep) way too many connections with Wall Street. Even still, some of the Democrats receiving lots of money from Wall Street are actually willing to do the right thhereas the republicans pledge to some demi-god that they somehow have put into idol status. (Sorry I have a tendency to run on sentences.)
Everyone on the Hill should be clammering to tell these huge crowds what they are going to do to recitify the situation. The message so far is faint and distant. Democrats are not fighting hard enough and republicans are trying to demonize the protesters as mobs with criminal mentality.

I depends if they are real Dems or just another bought political party trying to take over the movement.. From what I have seen the Dems are not much different from the Republicans. Both are owned by the Rich and Corporations and bought political parties who act like zombies and do nothing for the real people!!!! Corporations are not people, I don't care what the Supreme court says!!!!

It won't work if they seek to re erect Nobama. He & Geithner have
been in bed with the worst offenders on Wall St since day 1. Wall St
& Nobama/Geithner ARE status quo. The only change you're going
to get from them is change for a dollar. Wall st would sooner replace
unemployed humans with androids that don't need pesky health care,
and who won't object to being slaves. Their investment in machines
as replacements for humans is in the offing, and won't even require a
begrudging minimum wage payout. Imho, the Wall st occupiers would
be better off forming viable 3rd and 4th political parties rather than let
corrupt Corporatist Democrats co-opt them and destroy their fervor. If
the Democrats were worth anything they wouldn't have allowed Nobama
to be nominated over Kucinich. By now we all know the mediocrity that
shooting themselves in the foot turned out to be. - 7 months ago

I call B.O. " Nobama " because the O in his surname appears to sublimate
people into believing he's into openness. What he promised to get elected
was a change from the Bush administration. What was delivered was more
of the same and worse. At least insofar as the essentials I'm concerned with.
The name sticks because it's more appropriate than you might believe if you
lived on this side of the Atlantic, Alexandrek. As for a " rant " , if people here
wanted a rant, I could whip up one that would take your breath away so people
would not mistake me for some customer service desk receiving complaints.
I made my point. After closer to 3 years of seeing Nobama show his true colors,
I welcome the idea of attaining dual nationality in the Netherlands, and visiting
Switzerland again. I never listen to BS Nobamaspeak. I only weigh his actions. - 7 months ago

I'll support Democrats again when they enact the following measures:
1. Student Loan Amnesty. Total cancellation of all outstanding student loan debt, meaning a total and immediate forgiveness of all payments of principal and interest coming from this category of borrowing.
2. Stop ALL Foreclosures.
3. Defend and fully fund the social safety net. Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, S-CHIP, Head Start etc.
4. Pay for healthcare and social services with a 1% Wall Street Sales Tax.
More details about the above 4 here:
http://tarpley.net/2011/09/29/emergency-program-for-anti-wall-street-protestors/
5. Restore the constitution by NATIONALIZING the Federal Reserve.

EVERYONE has ties to wall street
if you own stock, have a retirement fund
YOU have ties to wall streetThe Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act
had a provision to reform Commodity Futures
the republicans stripped it out for votes to pass itthe democrats have been trying to write it back in since
the fact there are ties to wall street does not mean policy cannot move forward
through the democrat party
it's really a matter of moving policy beyond the republican partylook at what the democrats vote for

There is no way this movement should align with either party they are both guilty as hell of causing this mess, and in some ways the real difference between the Dems and Reps is that the Reps are more honest about how they want to continue f_ _ _ing the 99%...all the Dems seem to adept at is taking the money from the 1% and then running away and hiding all the while refusing to take a stand. The few Dems and one Rep that have stood up can be counted on one hand.

Unless you advocate the overthrow of this democracy, which would be absolutely insane...the pols are the only ones who can make that happen. But the movement would lose its effectiveness if it were to align with either party...this is about the corruption of the parties as well as the mega corps.
As the movement grows, the pols will have to respond or start looking for new jobs...once they (pols) see that this is powerful enough to be career ending they will stop dragging their feet and start responding to our concerns...just like Bill Clinton's disappointing speech in Chicago yesterday...a nodding reference to people being upset with the system...they still won't admit that this thing is gaining momentum and could steam roll right over them...even though some pols are getting nervous, I'm sure many of them are sitting in their smug little clubs having cocktails and laughing about what will happen when it gets cold on Wall Street.
This movement is still young, but I believe its power lies in the message and the tactics and not in any partnership that has a party name attached...especially a third party of some kind..it cannot become instituionalized. More and bigger!!!!
I hope that makes sense. - 7 months ago

The Democratic party will have to grow balls and prove they care about the 99% of the American population that is sick of the nation that has been purchased by the billionaire foreign born that are proving they can own everything in this nation, save the seat of the president (though they have proven that whoever sits there is up for sale as well).

I would like to think so. Many ppl forget that their comfortable upbringing was a result in some of the unions and prevailing wages. All the GOP wants to do is get all wages down to the bare minimum and keep the population impoverished. We have to remember what made us #1, and that was the fact that we had a mostly middle class society. Thanks to the republicans that is gone we are now only upper and lower incomes. I call it strip mining. Robbing the country of everything and putting nothing back. If they (GOP) had their way there would be no regulations on pollution, exhaust or chemical waste. Just put it anywhere.

Maybe, the occupy wallstreeters need to figure out whether or not they can fix the system create the changes they need within the current political confines of america or change the dynamics entirely.
If i was a leader in the movement my suggestion would be to get fresh blood into the government, get guys like bernie sanders and get entirely new people into government and i would create a new party, get tea partiers and progressives, liberals and conservatives that can actually work in one party and call it the "american reform party" two party system be damned.
Creating a centrist party of the 99 percent will force the democrats and republicans to be less partisan and be more reasonable and also force them closer to the center in order to get votes, so things can actually get done in washington.
Instead of allowing existing failed politicians to ride the coattails of the movement, i think since politicians are supposed to be representatives of the people, its time to get these dogs back on their leash and show em who's boss.
Sit boehner sit, good dog.

Well, considering that it worked with Republicans marching in front of the Tea Party and conservative canvas groups co-opting and shifting the momentum into a partisan black hole, why wouldn't it work for the Democrats?
I predicted this would happen as soon as I saw Michael Moore occupying a lot of Wall Street.

Soon, almost every politician will be courting "Occupy."
Will it work? For a very few, maybe... or maybe not.
"Can the Democrats win over the Occupy Wall Street protesters?" Time will tell.
"Would it result in any shift in policy?" Whether or not any politician can "win" over "Occupy," it is ALREADY resulting in shifts in their thinking, which will result in shifts in policy. Long way to go, still.

Inevitable. There has to be a political outlet so that people can vote. The Democrats are going to make light of anything and make it fashionable and trendy. The success of OWS depends on how much OWS can influence the Democrats versus how much the Democrats can control OWS.
People have much reason for having frustration with the Democrats, and all of it is valid. On the other hand, people will remember that the Democrats arrived with a clear plan in 2008 for boosting technology in renewable energy, for universal health care, and for reducing spending on national defense. It was the Republicans that obstructed that plan. Simply put, the lack of vision, the lack of direction, and the disorder that the nation is in belongs squarely on the shoulders of the Republicans.
In November 2012 this message will again be in the forefront.
