How badly will Romney's wealth hurt him in the GOP race?

Mitt Romney isn't the only GOP candidate in the 1 percent. But Newt Gingrich has been emphasizing Romney's elite status and polls have shown that support for Romney increases with income. As Salon notes, although Romney is not the only GOP candidate in the weathly elite, he exudes privilege in a way other candidates don't.

How badly will Romney's elite status hurt him in the race? Will he be able to win over voters in the 99 percent?

    • It will hurt him and will effect how he serves us, if he is elected. Most of us believe that our president is bought and paid for. When that is the case then we should see that one person with a million dollars to give is much easier to please than a million people with one dollar. So what little damage his attitude will have cannot stop him but merely make him defensive and compromising. President Obama has experienced this compromising since his election, hoping he can get the money out of the millions of persons who gave a dollar four years ago while treating the one man with a million with kid gloves as a defense.

    • Anyone, the likes of Romney will/has hurt the Republican Party. Proving what the rest already understand how they think for themselves.

    • Romney's wealth will not hurt him at all, but how he got his wealth will! Some of his wealth was given to him by his father and the rest he stold with his corruptive takeover tatics of company's that destroyed American lives..

    • Won't hurt him with the hard-core right-wingers as they worship money and live with the mental-illness that somehow (maybe through jezuz) they'll become one of the 1% themselves. If he is the candidate it won't win him friends amongst the "left", and I seriously doubt the "independents" are going to drop to their knees in worship of his precious holy-blessed money.
