Should political pressure be allowed to influence charitable donations?

Breast cancer charity Susan G. Komen for the Cure is pulling its money from Planned Parenthood under a new policy prohibiting grants to organizations under investigation. House Republicans have launched an inquiry into allegations that Planned Parenthood used federal funds for abortions.

The Komen grants were not for abortions, but breast cancer screening and related services.

How much should political pressure be allowed to influence charitable donations?

    • No political pressure should be allowed. We have enough power to effect change if we would just use it. Komen reversed its plan to with hold funds from planned parenthood. And we did it.

An establishment that declaired coorporations are people so that they can take hundreds of millions of corporate dollars to promote self agendas. I dont believe that justice is done by hypocrits and people out for the all mighty dollar. Planned parenthood provides healthcare and invaluable services to women that cant afford it. If this money is pulled from Planned parenthood, it will significantly impact health care costs in the future. Healthcare costs incurred because preventative care was not given. It will also open the door for many other caritable organizations to be bullied by our government.

    • The problem with the way we handle unwanted, unexpected pregnancy is that we seldom include the male contribution and hold them responsible, many times we exclude any other family members. I remember life before Roe v Wade and the secretive illegal abortions that went on. Making abortions legal to prevent back room surgeries and the use of dangerous drugs was a half step in the right direction but has not removed the desire to hide the fact from family involved. This is teaching us to hide from our own families and further erodes the male role in our society. Not good. Be open and honest if there is deceit it should be found out and exposed. My only problem with this is that Congress, the most deceptive players in this, are the investigators!

It seems the problem, this time, is that you are dismayed with the production quality, which actually is pathetic. But you must have known that it would be like this somewhat. Current isn't even in HD. But I watch it anyway. Know why Keith? Because of the message. The quality of the people that do the shows. Including you. I dont care what the damn (oops, sorry) set looks like. i don;t care that TYT is like a high school play. They are spreading the word. Ya know, the word, that you care so much about? Remember? You are coming off like a real Prima Donna. Besides, I'm the only one that matters here. You have messed up my schedule AGAIN! You screwed it up when you left MSNBC. I waited, I actually saw you at the Old Timers game at Yankee Stadium. I called out your name in the hopes of maybe waving to one of my heroes. You had your back to me, but I know you heard me. You froze. kind of hunched up your shoulders, said something to the guy that was helping get your stuff off the field. I can only imagine what that must have been. I had the impression that you were very aloof and cold and couldn't be bothered. Which I found odd, as you chastise others on a regular basis, for exactly the same thing. That brought you down a notch. But, when I heard you were coming on Current, I told my buddies that are fans of yours. All was forgiven. I hadnt even told them about the "Yankee Stadium Incident" I registered on this site and congratulated you. Before Cenk was even fired I suggested that you check him out. He would be an asset for your nightly lineup. I had the feeling that MSNBC werent treating him well and that he wasnt long for that place. Look at that, I cared enough to give you a tip, even after you were rude to me. And now this, again. I am getting to the point where I am starting to think that its you. It's not ESPN or MSNBC or Current, it's you. You seemingly have become the haughty, arrogant, pseudo progessive phony that you call out others for on a nightly basis. It's all about you. You coulda been up dere wit Dave Garroway, Keet. Too bad. .

The Republicans who deny abortions to women who have a right to them are the same self-righteous holier-than-thou, "good" Christians, who refuse to provide money, services or ADOPT all those children who arrive as a result of their narrow minded bigotry! Those of us who "Walk for the Cure", support others who do so, and write checks to enrich the Pink Ribbon People--will now direct our energy to Planned Parenthood until each child born into our country has a decent chance of growing to adulthood as a cherished human being...

You Hit the nail on the head Coach. If they actually made sure these unwanted children were cared for then I could see stopping abortions, however the fact remains that adoption are limited to the upper middle class and straight couples and govt support isnt there. Then the children suffer because of the lower education they get because they grew up poor and become teen mothers and fathers themselves thereby creating the circle that never ends
