What do the events of the last week say about women's standing in our culture and what can be done to halt the war on women?
March is women's history month, and the GOP seems determined to turn back the clock on women's rights. In just the past week, we've seen:
- Rush Limbaugh call law student Sandra Fluke a "slut" for speaking up in defense of birth control coverage
- Women being charged with murder over the death of an unborn child
- The Virginia governor signing into a law a bill requiring an ultrasound before an abortion
- The Arizona Senate passing a bill that would allow doctors not to inform women of prenatal issues to prevent abortions
Watch Jennifer Granholm's call for women to run for public office
and otherwise serve their country.
What do these events say about women's standing in our culture? What can be done to halt the war on women?

I think that women came out in force and told the conservatives of this country that talking sh!t about them will not be tolerated. I think that women will get it done at the voting booth this fall, and the GOP will either adapt or fade away.

I'm all for the Lysistrata strategy., altho with all the old, impotent, angry, white men voting on this issue, hiding their viagra might be more effective.

What it says is that men think women were put here to be their pawns...to do with as they choose. They forget that women hold a lot of power...they can make or break you. Piss us off and you will have HELL to pay (plus a lot of lonely nights). Get with the program guys.

I am surprised that this level of misogyny can be so casually framed by anyone, most especially by those in positions of power, influence and media visibility.
This goes beyond sound bites and is of serious concern to this woman. Hate Speak, anti-female public policy and negative media imagery in any form needs to stop.
We need to stop it.
Approximately 37 million baby boomer women and the 80 million millennial generation people we raised with values opposing this tide shift are a powerful voting block. We are also a sizable consumer base.
Therein lies our strength to do something. -- ms

The ancient legacy of "alpha male rule" inherent in the "Rush" comment is the same mentality that blames a woman for being raped (it was her fault for being beautiful or sexy) rather than blaming men for not practicing self restraint. (For more details, visit http://globalsense.com.)

Step one end religion. Step two repeat step one until humanity is purged of the ridiculous ancient notion that women are lesser and all around helpless without the direction of men.

I'll never understand how Christian women rationalize the crap the Bible says about women. How many women would remain Christians if their husbands and fathers were allowed to treat them as the bible says they should be treated? Oh, wait....they wrote a new book full of love...that's right.

That voting is going to be VERY hard to do this year. For the first time in my life I have actually had the thought....well I can't vote this year!

You know, you are so right about MANY women in this country. It saddens me to no end that in 2012 there are still so many women that don't know how to have an opinion of their own. There are women that happen to AGREE with their husband's(Father, Priest, whoever's) politics but there are many that just do as told. I even have girl friends that call me and ask me who they should vote for or never vote at all. Hopefully, with each future generation, that will change.
