Who should be in charge of immigration laws?
The Associated Press reports that the U.S. Supreme Court seemed to find little fault with Arizona's controversial immigration law, which requires police to check the legal status of people they stop for any reason.
The Supreme Court will be deciding who has the authority to create and enforce immigration policy: individual states or the federal government. The federal government is currently in charge of immigration policy, but several states have begun to pass their own laws because they feel the government has not done enough to deal with illegal immigration.
Chief Justice John Roberts made it clear that the court would not be weighing in on civil rights concerns about Arizona's immigration law. "So this is not a case about ethnic profiling," Roberts said.

Immigration is solely the responsibility of the National Government. However, States can augment a National Program.

I really don't think immigration in an issue as it was. I think they see us as all messed up. After how the Republicans are treating Mexico!
But Mexico is doing their best! Here in my town & other towns
I heard they stopped outsourcing work to Mexico. Why? "Low productivity", nothing was getting done! LOL!!!!
You got to respect that! After Arizona's laws I can just see breaks every 5 min.
And 2 HR lunches etc. I would be doing the same if I was in their shoes!Kind of like working at Walmart here. When they would do their retaliation,
by making the workers count how much won't go on the shelf
& put a sticker with date & etc on the box of overstock.
The workers didin't mind. We said ok & soon the sales went down the stuff
was not getting on the shelf we spent all our time on the stickers.
WIN! Power to the workers!I would hate to be outsourcing stuff in Arizona! I hope they take long breaks all day long over there in Mexico. Easy money my friend, Easy money!

We have to have one central place for these laws and the FED is the spot they belong. If we have 50 states making these then how are we called the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA? We will no longer be United. Fed when it comes to all social laws never allow the states that right ever.

The Federal Government, of course! Conservatives are all about “States Rights” as long as it coincides with their vision for this country, their brand of social engineering. For those of us who have a memory of continuity you may recall, conservatives remained silent and disregarded John McCain’s bold stand on immigration. It suited Conservatives to have a flood of millions of illegals providing cheap labor to corporations and agri-business, driving-down wages for all Americans, for decades. Now they wish to turn the tables like they do on so many issues. The Federal Government, republicans and democrats, dropped the ball on this issue for many decades. It would be silly, now, to build a fence or to have 50 states with their own immigration laws, just as silly as it is for 50 states with their own abortion laws which force women to be wandering nomads in the dark of night, fleeing to a state which will allow them to control their own bodies and personal health.
It is time for mass amnesty to bring those already here into the light of day, to pay taxes and to participate in our socio-political process, while at the same time definitively addressing immigration. But, then again, conservatives are probably afraid, now that the cat is out of the bag on cheap labor, that all of those former illegals may wish to vote democrat. - 1 year ago

Illegal immigration has been declining over the years and is at the lowest level since the Great Depression. That happened _without_ these laws. Obama's administration deporting record numbers helped in that regard as well.
