What do you think about the Black Friday phenomenon?

Here's a joke we've seen floating around the Internet: "Only in America do we trample each other for deals exactly one day after giving thanks for what we already have."
For years now, retailers have been offering ultra-deals on Black Friday. The name "Black Friday" came about after companies realized the day after Thanksgiving was the biggest shopping day of the year, and that those sales often put their budgets in the black. Now, department stores like Macy's and big box retailers like Wal-Mart are competing to offer the earliest shopping and the lowest prices. Many people have decried the fact that these employers are stealing Thanksgiving from their employees -- but most of them will still be there bright and early to take advantage of the sales.
What do you think of the Black Friday phenonmenon?

I wonder if it is more of entertainment or even a hobby, perhaps tradition for most people. The savings are not worth the effort. So that leaves me to believe that people like the adrenaline rush.

The main issue has been the pay for the workers.
The $419 billion in sales & $6.80+ after taxes pay for the workers.
The low pay keeping other pay low in your town lack of sales from the pay.
And lower property value from the workers homes & lack of care no money to fix the homes. The lowering of your towns value in getting bonds because of all of that. It's the cost of the poor they will take us down to their level! But a pressing issue is the shoppers, the greed.
Those people need to get over it! You can look up all the fights going on.
Mostly from the 50 or 100 items they have in stock for the sale with
500 people coming in for those items.I just don't see it, Liberal's having a fight on black friday, or at a bar.
So who are those people? And why war monger, at Walmart?Really think about it! As for me, if I went there & seen that there are no items left, I would turn around, leave the store & go to Radio Shack to get something!
It's also about the shoppers! We need to protest the shoppers also!
