What would it take for an assault weapons ban to make it into law?
After the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary gun control has become a main agenda item for the Obama administration. The president's proposed gun control platform includes universal background checks for firearms sales, federal trafficking laws, a ban on high-capacity magazines and a ban on assault weapons.
But reports suggest that the assault weapons ban is unlikely to make into the law, despite the fact that most Americans would support such a ban.
What would it take for an assault weapons ban to be passed?

Fear mongering is the motivator for all this clinging to the the gun business. It started way long time ago with new fears cropping up as needed. Kinda like keepin yeast alive.
I just want my right to buy a weapon protected under the law.
