How could Americans become more interested in environmental news?

Last week, The New York Times announced that it would be shuttering its Green blog, effective immediately. Earlier in 2013, the newspaper closed its environment desk. According to its announcement, the changes were made so the paper could "direct resources to other online projects."

The Times says it will continue to cover environment news. But skeptics aren't so sure. NYT blogger Andrew C. Revkin notes the Times still has the resources to back nine blogs solely dedicated to sports.

And The New York Times isn't the only paper cutting off oxygen to environment news. The Los Angeles Times' "Greenspace" blog is only updated about once a week.

Is this a reflection of Americans' appetites for climate news? How could media outlets make more people care about what's happening in the world (and water, and air) around them?

    • Maybe if a certain station had stuck with more of its founder's message and had not decided to become a propaganda wing of the Democratic Party.....

Oh well. Russia Today covers a lot of environmental issues, and is very informative and entertaining. I only wish my cable provider would air it here.

Hopefully, Al Jazeera America will do the same.

    • First...probably give Americans some REAL NEWS for a change. I'm talking about..local, national, world...but, not the fluffy-stuff they're accustomed to. Make people THINK...for a change. Let's hope Al.Jazeera will help...I watch their international broadcast...DAILY. It's the ONLY news I get, when compared to our own Network stuff.
