    • I wasn't a huge fan of Vicky, only because she didn't have much of a presents besides her voice on the channel. I'm down for news, especially when it's "Current", but how about we bring in a real robot pro. Can you say Conky 2000!

    • One last thing..

@Mario, we need the required sections of "Religion", and "Celebrities" section...

Because I say celebrities, because they are one of the top non-newsworthy things in Current, of all lists of things you have, please do make this small request....

    • Though I'm not a staff member at current I do believe the whole Twitterbot issue has been disscussed. Twitterbot is basically a stepping stone, not a permanent fixture at Current. Similarly the homepage and hiatus of current news are stepping stones to a system that supposedly, will end up featuring more community submissions and comments on tv. Patience people, patience. All good things take time.

    • Why doesn't Current just give the members what they want? Why do corporations always feel that they know better than their goddamn patrons?

I wonder if a boycott would be a more viable way to address our grievances...

it's not that we are intentionally depriving our members of what they want. the old system was not sustainable and needed to be rebuilt to be stronger.

one piece of feedback was continually made clear while Current News was on air -- people wanted to see MORE user submissions on air. we couldn't support that, so we made the decision to do what needed to be done to get there. unfortunately that involved pulling down Current News while we rebuilt the system.

the only aspect that won't return is Vicky -- which really just puts an added drain on the timing of putting more community submissions on air at one time.

in the end, this will result in more community stories on air with a variety of ways to participate in voting things onto TV in different channels on current.com.

    • Like I said on DeliahTheArtist's posting; You can count my vote in for this. Let the member's of Current vote on the top stories, not the editors, no matter the situation, time or event of the moment.

    • Am I the only one here who won't be missing Vicky? She was cute for a while, but then the whole thing just got annoying . . . If getting rid of Vicky will make more time and room for more user-submitted news stories, then I'm okay with it.

I agree that if it made more room for user submitted material, but the material being chosen has become the "editor's pick" which really comes off as favoritism after a certain point. That point being the editor's choosing certain topics or users to pick to be the top stories displayed. It used to be all of us, "the members" of current tv, that could vote on each and every article, and the one that had the most votes would rise to the top to be displayed on TV. Even now, after editior's have their choise of what will become the top stories, none of it is displayed on TV. That is what this posting is about; at least that is what I think.

Oh, I completely agree with you on that bit - the whole editor's pick thing really needs to go. I can understand having featured articles on the homepage, but when they bring the submitted stories back on television, they should relinquish control to the users, like it used to be.

thanks for the feedback on "editor's picks." we'll still reserve the right to feature things outside of the popularity list, however the frequency of this will rapidly slow once we get where we're going. plus, we will also call out our picks with an icon, badge, or message to be 100% clear about where we stepped in.

once we get our popularity algos dialed in for each of our top-level channels, and we start making hourly picks for TV again, the need to do editorial picks will lessen considerably.

      thanks again,
      mario
