Property is theft. Nobody "owns" anything. When you die, it all stays here.
-- George CarlinOwnership is overrated. Facebook can have what I write.

please remember, just because it's there doesn't mean you have to do it. if Facebook isn't your thing, that's cool...no one is making you join Facebook to continue using Current.
for those who love and use Facebook, this is just another way to join, interact, and engage in discussions taking place on Current.

People who use Facebook to promote Current care.
"Facebookers" use the internet to stay in touch with friends and family over long distances with ease. It's also good for promoting your online doings.

Mario, thanks to the Current staff for this. I question whether it will help the community become better, or simply larger, but i suppose time will tell.
What happened at Digg when they integrated facebook connect is that traffic grew substantially, but quality took a serious hit. I would hate to see that happen here.

I am disappointed in your decision. Facebook and many other social networking sites are collecting our personal data, or trying to, a lot of the time. I don't understand why there is such a denial of the importancy of our privacy, especially in our youth. Is it the faulty history lessons? If everyone learned about the McCarthy era would they think twice about baring so much online? I've always loved you current...but now I have to be wary.

maggiemae165:
@maggiemae165 -- thanks for the feedback. it's important to note that connecting your Current.com account to a Facebook profile is completely optional.
it not only provides Current community members an option to share their content on Facebook, but also offers Facebook users an easy way to join Current using their Facebook accounts.

maggiemae165:
Maggie, as Mario has said, the integration is completely optional.
That said, I wrote a paper on the vast issues with the facebook privacy policy long before it was even a consideration in the mainstream media... and I still opted in.
The problem is when people do know know where to draw the line. How much are you willing to share? Facebook gets low-resolution versions of a select few of my photos, and no real contact information.
Facebook uses this data for data mining. What they have is a virtual treasure trove of marketing data. Whether you give them that information about you is completely in your hands.

Thanks for the breakdown, Mario_a. Earlier today I was just thinking about how to share my stories with friends who don’t know about Current. This helps a lot. Thanks! : )

Guess I'll open a Facebook account then, seems like good integration. I heard they own everything you say in Facebook. Seems a bit greedy and unfair, to me. It's like when I found out that all the coursework you submit to college or university becomes their itellectual property. Not yours, theirs. Pfft. Why bother.
