Some of the top trending searches according to Google include queries about word of DJ Peachez’s death, Debbie Schlussel’s tirade about NBA sportscasters being yanked for the use of “Eye-Ran,” and Adam Lambert’s AMA Video awards.
But the rule of the day has largely been queries about “Black Friday.” Scanning retailer specific queries is pretty telling:
1. Kmart Black Friday ad 2009
2. Black Friday Best Buy
3. Walmart Black Friday deals
4. Sears Black Friday sale
5. Toys R Us Black Friday
6. Cyber Monday deals
So much shopping! I find it interesting that Toys R Us appears so low on the list (at the time of post, it was the 14th most popular trend on Google). Sure, 14th place is nothing to shake a stick at, but consider “Scroogenomics: Why You Shouldn’t Buy Presents for the Holidays” author Joel Waldfogel’s perspective on things.

For the first time in months, I actually went shopping yesterday.
I went to Costco and bought ten cans of low-sodium soup.
I kind of regret buying so much.

It has never effected me one way or the other because I and many of my procrastinating brethren do not set foot in a store for gifts until within a week of Christmas. Sometimes getting physically forced out a closing store on Christmas Eve. Now that is how you do it. :)

If I could change one thing about cyber-monday and black friday, it would be to focus the shift on what it does for big business' sale of chinese imported products and what it can do for small business' sale of valuable products.

I work retail and I am not pumped for tomorrow. I love 18 hour days! Although, overtime is the shit.

If I'm shopping at all, I'm shopping online — still "America, Fuck Yeah!" and they bring it to you! People in line from midnight on are a bit crazy to me.

perfect day to turn our most consumeristly narcissistic habits into a chance to BUY NOTHING!!!! people getting run over in shopping lines, buying shit that they dont need, boosting the economy by giving our money to greedy idiots, supporting big box stores that actually funnel money out of our local economies, waiting in line with bloodthirsty shoppers, getting high on shopping only to later crash when you see your credit card bill...... just say NO! and stay home and play a card with your friends and family. BUY NOTHING. just one day outta the year. smile!

Oh, gez, you'd have to be mad, MAD I TELL YOU! to shop on the evil Black Friday. Every worked retail during this time? Ya, it sucks. Try working a Costco. HELL on earth! Though, there are killer deals, blah blah blah, I stay away from shopping that day. People suck enough as it is, let alone when people have been killed on that day. Go America.

I remember last year. I heard of a mall that some guy had injected glue into all the locks so they couldn't open up for "black friday."
I would like to be that guy.
But I'm not supposed to talk about Operation Mayhem.

I'm pretty sure it's been at least a decade since anyone in my family has ever shopped for anything on "Black Friday".
