Welcome to the New Current TV Website!
We’ve just completed a major revamp of our site and wanted to let you know what we’ve been up to. Over the past several months, we’ve set out to improve upon the features that we know you love and also to introduce you to some of our amazing content that was previously hard to find – we think you’ll love it too.

To accomplish this, we've made some pretty significant changes, added new functionality, and even brought some old friends back to the party. Without further ado, here are some of the major changes:
Simplified Layout
We’ve made it easier to navigate your way to your favorite places on the site. Are you looking to catch up on infoMania? Maybe you’re curious about what our Vanguard correspondents are up to? Each show has its own page, and all the show pages are easy to find from anywhere on the site – just roll over the TV SHOWS tab and you’ll see them all.
If you’re interested in the popular news stories submitted to Current TV by members of our community, roll your mouse over the NEWS tab, and select the category that catches your fancy.
Some people prefer to just kick back and watch a good session of original video from Current TV. If that sounds like your cup of tea, click on the VIDEO tab, choose a TV show or channel, and soak in a feed of your favorite videos from Current TV.
As on the old site, you can still click on the SCHEDULE tab to see what’s airing on Current TV in your time zone, and take a look at what is coming up a full week in advance.
A new addition to our site is the Participate section, which will always have the latest opportunities to submit content to Current TV for use online and on air. Whether you want to participate in the latest BFD (Big Featured Discussion), upload your entry for the latest VCAM (Viewer Created Ad Message) assignment, submit webcams in response to a recent Current TV show, or submit news stories to discuss with your fellow community members, the PARTICIPATE tab is the one to click to get involved with all things Current TV.
Home Page Marquee
The new home page marquee has a more cinematic feel – now we’re using the full width of the site to present top-shelf content: not-to-be-missed broadcasts, great web extras from our TV shows, and must-read popular news stories.
Find Us on Your TV
Now it’s easier than ever to find Current TV in your living room. We’re often asked, “Hey Current TV person, where can I find your shows on my TV?” So now our most common channels and our handy channel finder are front and center on the home page.
Popular Stories
We heard your feedback loud and clear, so we've re-introduced the popular feed to the home page! The Popular Stories area lists stories posted to Current.com by you, in order of popularity as determined by our community. It's powered by an all-new scoring system that takes your votes, views and comments into account when programming items into the feed. What are you waiting for? Participate in making a story popular enough to hit our home page and rise through the ranks to number one!
Big Featured Discussions (BFD)
This is a brand new way to participate on Current TV, and we’re excited to see what you think of it. Big Featured Discussions are, as the title implies, interesting topics we’re serving up for the community to tackle on a daily basis. Discussions could come from a hot topic in the news, a TV show host with a bone to pick, or from who knows where – your guess is as good as ours to see where this ends up!
To make things more interesting, you can vote each response posted on a BFD into popularity, and we will feature the best-of-the-best on our home page. We have a lot of ideas for this new addition to the site, so we hope you’ll dive into our BFDs, participate, and vote, vote, vote!
Popular Comments
Our new home page now features popular comments from all the discussions around the Current TV site based on votes from our community. Help others discover the best conversations brewing on the site by voting up comments to surface on our home page.
Your Feedback
We always love hearing from you, so please take some time to share your thoughts, suggestions or questions on our new feedback page. The work around here never stops – tomorrow it’s onto more improvements, so let us know what you like, what you don’t like, and what you’d like to see next!
Thanks for stopping by, and we hope you enjoy the new experience waiting for you at Current.com.

Threading "Replies" Method Not Serving ...Please Check it out at the link, and if you agree, say so, so we can get it changed...
http://getsatisfaction.com/currentcom/topics/fix_the_threading_method_it_does_no...Synopsis: It is impossible to intelligently, and in a timely fashion, follow threads with replies strewn throughout the page. When you return to a thread you should be able to pick up where you left off, without having to hunt and peck and waste time figuring out the discussion flow.
There is a better way with simply some slight adjustment.
At the link there I have suggested a method for addressing this that I feel would better serve our needs. Please go there and chime in.Maybe this is way we can "Vote" to influence changes to the form and function here at the site ;^)

Can someone tell me... I haven't posted a story in a while, but did they update the ability to invite people when you post a story?
I found it really tedious to have to click each one individually, and i think the only ones you can choose are listed from whom you follow list, and not the who is following you list.
This really needs to be upgraded if it was not already.
I had written to th blog, and to the feedback thingy about this, and I believe there was mention of looking into it for the coming upgrades.I don't know if this has anything to do with it too, but I have noticed that since about the beginning of the year I only get invitations to stories from about two, sometimes three people. Now maybe I am not that popular and so do not get invited, and I don't much care about 'that' aspect... I did wonder, however, if the invite system is fubar and members simply do not use it... but then there are those three people who invite me from time to time... so who knows ?!

Although I like the changes I believe cosmetic changes and color scheme are less important in my opinion.
I wish Current worked harder to attract and retain users who engage in civil discussions, encourage quality comments instead of bickering. I would also like to see two separate counters for votes, one for the up vote and the other for the down vote.

Current did need change. Unfortunately, the kinds of changes being made aren't for the better (in my humble opinion). It seems like Current is doing it's absolute best to alienate viewers and detach itself from the online community, thus stripping away one of the main reasons that people were attracted to it in the first place. I've watched Current decline steeply in the past few months and I'm really not happy about it. I'd love to see Current revert back to better times, but with each new "upgrade" I feel like that's becoming less and less likely. I'd love to be proven wrong.

I figured out why I don't like Current as much anymore.
It's its sudden fixation with getting more and more users.
In other words making the site more appealing to everyone and anyone in order to increase traffic to the site thus being able to charge more in ad space. Greedy $#%!@And because there is so much more people on the site and because there is no restrictions on what stories you can post and how many, there is so much more shit stories to sift through. Thus making the previously easy task of finding good stories to read and comment on laboring and not worth the effort.
All this site is made up of now is mediocre users posting mediocre stories which in turn satisfies the mediocre intellect of said users.
Even the staff running Current seems mediocre or rather doltish. Purposely taking away their most popular features. The same features that made them popular or worth wild in the first place. Taking away almost all viewer created content (VC2) and input, Viki, Relevant Vanguard stories, Its signature green color theme, and an online community that seem more informed and intellegent than most.
I guess that's how new users are able to put up with the steady flow of crap spewing trouhg the feeds here on Current, they don't know what Current used to be and how much better it was. All they're getting now is the bottom of the barrel and they don't even know it.

I don't like it. The emphasis is now placed on the television channel, rather than the on-line community.
The ads start automatically and blare some ridiculous commercial, which makes the whole place feel like a spam trap.
Current was a great experiment that has sold out to a third rate cable channel.

It's a little harder to log in to the site now ,because as I scroll up to the sign in on the page, the tab marked "participate" opens!!! The tabs are just WAY too sensitive!!! & I actually find the new setup harder to navigate with !!! I DO like the whole streamlined look, but functionality is not as good as it should be!!! I I am STILL finding that stories related to one subject will appear in places completely unrelated to that subject!!! As for current the channel...It would seem the channel is having issues, as all I've been seeing lately are best of specials!!! It's clear Current is TRYING to improve upon things, but there are STILL many many things that seem to need some work!!! Weeding out spammers would be a HUGE must!!! I support Current & a lot of the awesome stuff Current does, but I do have to warn the site & show creators not to go overboard changing things!!! I've noticed with ANY site though that if the site makes some sudden radical change people freak out, some leave the site & then others just stay around & eventually get used to change!!! I really hope things get worked out!!! & I REALLY want to see Current pushing some of the ideas that the network was founded on again, because some of those old Ideas are why Current is even worth paying attention to in the first place!!!
Personal taste note: I really don't like Super News at all!!!

One of the best things you can do is to flag spam when you see it. It really helps us train the system tor recognize spam more quickly, and whisk it away from Current. Trust me, we don't like spam either!

Those of us with groups should be able to customize the colors on their pages as well as be able to add banners on them. My page for the Sustainable Agriculture Group looks terrible now with the contrasting colors. I also think you should have a category marked groups at the top ot your main page. Some may not be able to find them or know to click on "participate" to get to them.

People's avatar is gone from the news list.
The whole scheme of colors is cold, feels robotic and too harsh.
The aesthetic does not convey that warmth you would expect from a community, social site.
What happened to all groups?

Thanks for effectively gutting out 85% of our content. The page really does 'look' nice but to us members this is BS. At least give us a page that when we log in we can see our content and what people are really commenting on. like a google's twitter feed..
Do we really have to tab around to see what stories are on the rise. what a joke.

lordsbassman:
We haven't gutted 85% of community content on the homepage. Our previous homepage displayed 2 community stories per channel module, for a total of 16 stories. Our new homepage displays 10 community stories, but more importantly clarifies which content is original TV show content from our TV network. It's a far more streamlined page that will hopefully do a better job initiating new visitors to Current TV.
I totally understand the desire to dig into specific content on the site, so if you're more interested in stories posted by the community there are a few solutions for that.
If you want to immediately see popular stories, bookmark this page:
http://current.com/items/popular/
If you prefer to see a raw feed of new stories added to the site, bookmark this page:
If you are more interested in content of a specific type, you could always bookmark the individual channel of interest to you. For example:
http://current.com/entertainment/comedy/
http://current.com/news/politics/
Essentially any page on our site can act as your specified homepage.
Hope this helps.

Big Featured Discussions and Popular Comments are really cool features.
How are BFD's selected?I think having the option to comment on the BFD directly from the front page without even going to the article page is a bad idea.

May I recommend the change in the way banned comments appear.
I find it disturbing that once active member of Current community who may have contributed many great posts and comments would simply and COMPLETELY disappear from Current. I do understand, respect and support Current guidelines, rules of conduct and an absolute need for civil interactions. But Current culture is shaped by Current posters and removing ALL traces of existence is simply wrong. I truly believe that only the offending comment should be removed leaving preserved all non-offending and often valuable informational comments and links.
Thank you for reading my suggestion and I hope Current team will preserve our non-offending posts that help shape the Current culture.

I'm going to need a little time to scope it out before presuming to comment too much.
That said, I really miss the helpful icon that used to adjoin the user's icons throughout the site, at any post, etc, showing the user's level's/achievment/activity. I mentioned this in the blog, and I thought it was slated for return?
Also, I should mention, and maybe I am in the minority, but as much as Current has going on on TV, I am someone who does not really do much TV, and i do not even get Current TV anyway. I initially started coming here because I was intrigued by the ability to scope news from around the world ...driven by world community participation, and the facitlity to be interacting, rating, and all that.
I hope Current keeps a strong mindfulness about how this site works as a stand-alone (from TV) service for news access interconnected with community driven rating. Since the major transition some time back it seems this has suffered greatly.Good luck with the new dress... I hope it works out.

Ok, first - to the suggestion of having people compete to have their story aired simply for the glory. I find this idea rather counter productive and somewhat insensitive to those who have worked so hard to create stories. My understanding is that the goal of Current TV is to get as many different stories submitted as possible to make information and knowledge more accessible to people - for the people, by the people. It seems like it would be a waste time for the producers at current and voters to determine which of the variations are better when there are plenty of other stories they can be voting on and getting to air that much sooner. Also, those who are creating the packages would be wasting their time trying to get the same story for the same outlet when they can be putting their time into investigating and reporting on something different and focusing on things they are very familiar with. The whole idea behind user generated content is to get new stories, new perspectives, and new talent to be seen and heard. Not to compete for glory. You want glory, go try out for the olympics. You want to make change in the world and inform people about important issues, do film/video/news.
The other issue I have with such an idea is that while you, and others you know may have time to put into producing projects for glory, that very idea is what has caused so many talented film makers and video producers to stop creating and start working at Starbucks. Then you are left with only stories from the perspective of people who have enough money and time to make stories for free. Awarding people for their hard work with money is essential to create quality content. Not because everyone is greedy, but because people need to make a living or at least recoup their costs of production.Lastly - to the design critiques, while I am a big fan of good design, I don't think they really did a bad job here with design, as they made an extremely streamlined and easy to navigate interface which from what I understand from people I know, this is MUCH better. Those who are not tech savvy media junkies who are interested in current, are now more comfortable at the site and not overwhelmed.
Great job current, keep it up. - 1 year ago

all i miss so far, is the ::more:: button/link that extends the opening paragraphs of each article. having the 'champloo' of (extended)things to read, all on one page was like no other source i'd found - outside of long-winded gossip sites. it was perfect for breaking my glut-of-tabs habit... please cough it back up!

The functionality is a lot better now, but what happened to the current design standards?i thought current valued design. It looks like you guys used some standard wordpress type blog. added a couple features here and there and you were done. this is not the current i know.

Will user-submitted stories never be featured on TV again?! I think so many of us were drawn to Current with the lure of having our hard-found news links featured on TV hourly.
I believe that particular feature of Current is what had so many of us out there digging up the best and most newsworthy material for this great site. Bring it back! Please? :) - 1 year ago

New idea: What if you put out more challenges for Currenters to compete over? Not for a cash prize... but just for the glory of being featured on TV or just the homepage for a bit! Could be a quick pod on something you want covered. Mini interview with some segment of society. What do people think about X issue.
For example... "Submit a 1-3 minute short pod/cellphone video clip that shows how people in your world feel about the new immigration law in Arizona" Anything will do really! Just give us a challenge to compete over. We're up to it!

Hey jeffissleeping,The good news is, stories from Current.com will be returning to TV later this year. Unfortunately, we're not planning to turn these stories into a nightly 30 minute deep dive a la Current Tonight. Popular stories will be aired more regularly (and frequently), and will likely be mixed into our regular programming.
We're still fine tuning this, and there is some work yet to be done so it may change slightly. However, for now we do not have plans for a nightly news show based on popular stories.

User-submitted stories on TV will return. We have that on the road map and should be rolling it out soon. To those of you who have held on in anticipation of this, sorry for the delay. We'll get there!

Thanks Mario! I'm really psyched about this. Many people have been posting concerns on a range of issues from features like this one to overall quality/spam issues. I'm happy to hear great news like this!

the homepage auto-play and floater ads are soooo annoying, and I see you removed all of my attempts at being equally annoying with comments about floater ads and auto-play that I liberally posted on the top 20 stories. I had a feeling that annoying current staff just might be violating current policy, but alas, I did not heed that still small voice and became a renegade poster. Clearly, if I am not more careful I shall find myself banished to JJ land.
sorry, but it's still annoying. I think the new homepage is over the top with self promotion, but I will just bypass your annoying self promotion tactics and bookmark from elsewhere. I still really like Current.

I've noticed the beta tag is missing. Does that mean that this new Current is now officially v1?
I also preferred the green over the blue. Just my opinion. To me, the color green symbolizes technology, which works for Current.
