DDoS Attack

Some of you may be experiencing trouble accessing our site. I wanted to post an update.

Tuesday night Current TV experienced an attack that brought down Current.com at around 8:30pm Pacific. This type of attack is called a distributed denial-of-service attack (a.k.a DDoS). We isolated the focus of the attack to a religious-based discussion thread. After isolation the attack escalated considerably, and brought the site down for a second time.

This is the first time we’ve received an attack like this in our network’s history.

DDoS attacks are fairly uncommon, and are intended to render a service completely inoperable. These are quite different from attacks used by griefers or trolls, who often hijack a site for purposes of amusement, attention, or to shame someone.

A DDoS attack is intended to silence a site, or a member of a site, for a very specific reason.

So why attack Current TV?

We cannot be certain. We are working to keep the site up, and are looking into ways to prevent future attacks. We are continuing to get hit, and anticipate that connecting to our site may still be a little unstable throughout the day. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

    • some one got mads their feelings got hurt, so they go and try and censor the internet.

what a bunch of n00bs. current isn't worth a ddos attack, go do something more productive... maybe a repeat of operation titstorm but on a full global scale? ah such fond memories.

That doesn't fit with "We isolated the focus of the attack to a religious-based discussion thread. After isolation the attack escalated considerably, and brought the site down for a second time."

Why would "someone fighting corporate greed" focus on that? It fits more with someone trying to carry out threats made in that "religious-based discussion thread"

The important part is that it was only temporary and had no effect on the thread itself since it's still there so the attack had no results

    • At least it goes goes to show that standing up to threats was worth the attack since Current did weather the storm with the posts intact.

That's better than some did to show that kind of extortion doesn't work.

    • Can you add further information(or separate posts) as it becomes available, unless of course for some legal reason you are prohibited from doing such?

If legal reasons would bar a response, then could you also state that you can not say anything for legal reasons?

    • i dont think so cuz hes addicted to the fight, but lacks the smarts to extend them.so i doubt he is crafty enough to pull this off, plus it would take away his all day pastime. i mean im unemployed and (when on) hes on here more than me.
unless its like one of those if i cant have it no one can type behaviors wich he is certainly not above.

its good to know tho cuz it was freakin me out when everything else on the internet worked but current didnt, i thought my comp took a shit.

ironicaly it was a religious post lol

yes but ive done a lil research and the catholics cornered the guilt market, they beat us by a mile.
our mothers use it as a tool on thier children, catholics have original sin dictating you are guilty by being born.

i know its niether here nor there and a lil tmi but thanks to religion i cant rub one out without a sense of immediate self loathing afterwords. mixing the greatest physical sensation, with the worst has to explain why the religious are messed up
