New images from Libya show evidence that those who removed Colonel Gaddafi from office are adopting methods as brutal as the dead tyrant’s. The video shows former revolutionary fighters whipping a fearful Libyan man repeatedly with cables at a Tripoli refugee camp.
Camp manager Mohamed al-Mabruk, who handed over the footage, said: ‘The fighters from Misrata have kept their weapons and vowed to capture everyone who supported Gaddafi.
‘They come on regular raids to our three camps in Tripoli and take anyone they want. They beat them and torture them to get them to confess to rape and murder.’
Mr al-Mabruk is helpless to stop the raids. He said: ‘You can do nothing against the Misrata militias.
'We are all terrified of them. The government, the police and the army cannot stop them.’
Attacks are often filmed by the fighters for amusement to post on YouTube.
The community responds to the growing abuse in Libya:
maasanova: "They weren't freedom fighters to begin with they were agent provacatuers sent in to stir dissent and overthrow the "evil dictator." The 2009 Iranians elections were the testing ground for this shite and Syria is next."
freecrack: "Get rid of Mubarek, they still blame Israel for everything despite that being a big part of why they got rid of him. Get rid of Qadaffi, and the people are still a damaged hurt collective of tribes. why would we expect any different?"
Novek: "We helped turn one of the best countries in africa into one of the worst in such a short time .."
MotherForTruth: "Stop interfering in internal affairs of other countries."
Anonmaly: "Wonder if the UN will sign another order for a "re-liberation" or some shit....? We can't allow the Libyan people to be brutalized by people we put in power can we?....You know many Iraqis wish they still had Saddam too...."
