French court finds Monsanto guilty of chemical poisoning
Submitted by JanforGore
A French court found US biotech giant Monsanto guilty of chemically poisoning a local farmer. The farmer, Paul Francois, suffered neurological problems including memory loss, headaches and stammering after inhaling Monsanto’s Lasso weedkiller in 2004. He accused the company for not providing enough warnings on the product label.
The court in Lyon ordered an expert opinion of Francois’ losses to establish the amount of damages to be awarded.
Monsanto said it is considering appealing against the judgement. It claimed the link between the farmer’s symptoms and potential poisoning was never established.
The community responds to the verdict that could help other health claims against pesticides:
chew_chew: "Time for a "Happy Dance" was my first thought on seeing this headline! It's a good start."
JanforGore: "Monsanto has already been found guilty of false advertising in France regarding RoundUp. There is also a case pending here in the U.S. in regards to transgenic contamination of organic crops that is scheduled to be decided by March 31. I'm hoping for justice in THIS country for a change."
The_Wanderer_Kansas: "Huzzah! Fine em into the ground France, I will take any victory I can get against these monsters!"

THANK YOU for covering this on your front page. People need to know what this immoral company is doing to toxify our food, water and take away livelihoods globally. I hope this at least gets more people to reading up on this. This chemical poisoning has affected the last three generations and must stop if we are to have a liveable planet.
