Bridging the gap between music and politics
In an attempt to bridge the gap between music and politics, HeadCount, a grassroots organization focused on voter registration, is bringing together music legend Bob Weir and indie rock band The National for a one-time-only, live-streaming event Saturday night.
Weir, a founding member of the Grateful Dead, and The National will be joined by other independent musicians for the live performance, aptly named "The Bridge Session." In between sets, they'll put down their instruments and join a roundtable discussion on politics and policy.
Joining the musicians will be voices from both ends of the political spectrum, including California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, lyricist-turned-activist John Perry Barlow, former Bush adviser Mark McKinnon consverative commentator Melanie Morgan and former Louisiana Gov. Buddy Roemer. They'll tackle topics ranging from First Amendment rights to the 2012 presidential election.

starting at 9et/6pt.
HeadCount hopes the event will introduce a diverse music audience to critical national issues. The organization has previously worked with artists such as Dave Matthews Band and Pearl Jam to make civic engagement part of the live music experience and have registered more than 175,000 voters.
