Photo Fetish

combustagil
Fetish photography is a subculture all it's own.
__

Elvis; an Atlanta photographer organized this all day photo shoot in Atlanta with a fetish theme for models and photographers from all walks of life and experience levels to learn, network and build portfolios.

Many of the photographers and models at this shoot were fetish life stylers and take part in fetish photo shoots on a regular basis.

A unique element of fetish photography is that fetish modeling for the models is often about building self esteem. Often fetish models do not meet the standards set for glamour models, but with fetish modeling, they are worshiped and admired.

    • Where did you find these people? I really agree with the message though: better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not.

    • I love it! I just finished working on a doc tv show called "Red Light." I field produced a segment on fetish photo which aired w/ two other segments on a porn agency and a drag queen led band in LA called Dirty Sanchez. Check it out here: link Let me know if you are interested in collaborating on anything. -A.T.

    • I always appreciate a micro story that illucidates a macro issue. This is an great example of looking at a universal issue - body image - through the lens of a photographer and his artistic pursuit. I am drawn into Elvis and his work and through that door I gain insight to these women. I get who they are, how they feel, and how they celebrate their beauty.
      Well done.

I've been interested in this style of work for a few years and I'm glad to see a production like this.

    • I really enjoyed watching this, and listening to what the models and the photographer had to say. It kept my interest the entire time....And I loved the quote "It's better to be hated for what you are....Then loved for what you aren't." SO true!
I personally think that curvy women of various sizes, shapes and forms are so much more attractive and sexy, then the anorexic standard in today's modeling world. So, I say, awsome... for anyone who can stand up and break that mold! GREAT JOB!

Difficult subject presented in a brilliant way. Liked the way you let the subjects make the film personal. Challenging but handled well.

    • Really awesome documentary, definitly humanizes fetish models. I really dig the message of the whole thing and I love the live model in the background. I have nothing really bad to say about it, you get a green light from me.

    • I'm really trying to think of some constructive criticsms, but this piece is very well paced, has great transitions, and a good blend of narration over live shots. I really enjoyed the interviews and the variety of different environments in the piece. The intro and outro 'camera shot effects' are nice as well, and the content is very meaningful. I saw the credits at the end, but did elvis or any of the models get a plug for the site? I can't remember if they mentioned the name of their site in the video or not. Overall I'd say this is a good piece of work!

    • This is a good production of a video, but it is lacking some key things for a fetish vid. Where is all the spanking and screaming? The photographer talks about raw meat and blood.... why not in the video? Overall it left me with a good feeling about people trying to feel good about thereselves in any sort of way. Thanks G.I.L

    • I was very pleased to be a part of this (the only chick photographer/model in the film and at the event:)
And getting to work with some of the lovely ladies, and meeting allot of them, as well as seeing allot of girls I knew on here.
I'm very proud of you girls, all of you. And the ones that are taking the risk to model. Not easy no matter who you are or what you look like or what type you do.
The fact the girls can get in front of a camera (which to me is like a stage in some ways) takes allot of courage..
And I for one am happy to see more diversity in the fetish modeling scene (ecspecialy in Atlanta)
It's really long over due. And I hope it continues, and this piece helps with that..
This piece is really good and a strong piece so far, and really portray's all involved very well, and I think it should be seen by a larger audience.

There is my comment and two cents:)

    • i was a part of that (even though you didn't see me) and the ladies are absolutely right. it does give you confidence, even if you don't have the "all American" standards for modeling. i am so glad i found this scene

    • Excellent!!! Beauty comes in various shapes and sizes and different things appeal to different people. The size of someone shouldn't exclude them from being sexy.

    • there is a tremendous opportunity to expand this concept to a reality based series that is a counterpoint to the current heroin chic paradigm of what is 'beauty'.

Probably 60% of normal sized US citizens would directly relate to the inspiration this short outlines.

As a producer, I see some real potential here!

    • That is a great video. Very informative, gives a great point of view, of a subject some people may know nothing about. Also, shines a positive light on plus size models. Which in my opinion is well needed.

    • Great topic, good subjects, nicely shot. Congrats!
A suggestion: come straight out of the gate with your strongest stuff. For example, why not open with "It all started with me on my computer one night with my webcam on..."? To me, the women's comments about their transformation ("I own this!") and the family they are building is the center of this story--the photographer and his motivations are secondary. His commentary is strongest when he's talking about the women ("it's better to be hated for what you are than loved for what you aren't"). Personally, I would have used him to further the focus on the women, rather than as an equal balance.
