Climbing wind turbines

Newconsumer_dot_tv
Newconsumer.tv landed in Swaffham, Norfolk, UK, to climb the UK's only wind turbine open to the public.

Last week, the EU committed Europe to producing 20 per cent of its energy from renewables by 2020.

In the UK, that mostly means wind power, which - contrary to some reports - is being greeted with open arms in parts of the country. One of the nation's wind-lovers is the tiny Norfolk town of Swaffham, which is already home to two major turbines and has just received a planning application for another six.

    • Good issue, strong visuals and nice variety of shots. I liked the builing phase, and the reaction by the community.
Just imagine all the other alternatives just waiting...red tape

    • Pretty high numbers for the percent of Britain's total energy needs. 20% would take a substantial bite out greenhouse emissions for them.

Solutions will obviously have to come from a variety of technologies, applied in a variety of creative ways. The story today (link
, also from Britain, regarding a possible mitigation for existing power plants exemplifies the type of thinking we'll have to engage in.

    • Concrete application of this alternative fuel: one turbine for 1000 homes. The viewer is able to understand the impact of such an implementation.

    • A much needed view of these "green" machines.
How about cost comparison to other energy production and the Iraq debacle...

    • excellent presentation, relevent topic, informative,
short and to the point, covered the basics, didn't bore with too many details, made user curious to look further into the subject

    • A good promotional piece but would like to have heard more on costs compared to other forms of energy and environmental effects. Maybe that could be convered in a follow up video. They appear to be a good alternative.

    • There are many wind turbines along the west coast of Japan - I've never heard that people are negative about them, their placement or their 'noise'. These machines work and work well; they are a viable power alternate and s/b located everywhere.

    • I would have liked a dissenting opinion on the placement of the turbines. While I'm supportive of the turbines, I'm sure there might be some in opposition.

    • This is very informative, my wife and i were unaware of how much energy a wind turbine could produce, why arent these things all over the U.S. and on every mountain top???

    • It was remarkable to me to see how many homes can be powered by this one wind machine...We have so many smaller ones cluttering up spaces here in the US...that I must assume don't produce nearly as much electricity as this design does...plus...not having the gear noise to boot.

    • The only thing you might consider adding is a critique, such as the cost of the turbines, how much more turbine energy is than other enery per kilowatt hour, etc.

    • It's a great idea, but I have to admit the video seems to be lacking. The humming by the wind generator really ruins the shots from the interviewer's angle. I would gl if it didn't just seem like a bad attempt to puff piece some really important stuff. Do some work to it and add some critic and I might reconsider.

    • it is surprising to see 14% of red light for such an important and good made pod. france is covered by nuclear plants and we are very afraid of an accident.
      you have my GL.
yet i think you could also add some critic about wind turbines...

and please don't forget to watch our sexy film "sorbonne off limits" and tell us what you think about

    • Fascinating. I had no idea how wind turbines worked. And contrary to what some people think, I think they are quite beautiful monsters...not too much of a scar on the landscape. Not sure if Current will air something already pre-fonted, but maybe...good luck getting on air.

    • this is an important message. i was glad to hear the number of homes that are powered by the turbine. one question i was left with was-- what is the cost of the turbine?

stylistically, it was well done in the traditional lecture newscast kind of way, the music a wonderful complement, and the person on the street interviews added an good dimension. clearly, there is no tension here, as everyone is in agreement.

This subject is very close to my heart and I am thrilled to get a look at this wind trubine project! EXCELLENT! Green light! • I love this pod! Great subject and well executed. You have my GL.

My only thought is that this is Current TV, not new consumer TV. You may get a hassle for embedding your own trademark so deeply into the content, including the narration itself.

Current loves things that do that with their own name but I don't know how keen they are to have some other TV logo mixed in with theirs.

    • The edited footage of the construction of the wind turbine was fascinating. My boyfriend recently bought a book on the power of wind and I was blown away by the finished construction of the Dubai building was a very interesting story that I highly reccomend checking out. Keep the momentum with this! I think it is great to continue to authenticate the use of green energy sources and how successful that are in industry. Dont stop your work, it is important and will remain so for all use viewers!

Thanks for this! Feel free to check out my first vid launch, We Create.

    • Very informative video, shows how just a small amount of turbines can power almost a whole area, and drags in the public aspect aswell - the local communities opinions, and as you have demonstrated well here, there is hardly anyone opposed to turbines. They are relatively quiet, pollution-free, and efficient, plus they don't look any more as bad on the landscape as some jack towers pumping out clouds of smoke 24/7, if anything they look far more pleasant.

Very well done - Green Light'd from me.
