Iraq Releases Video Ultimatum Of British Hostages

Iraqi militia have released a video of five British citizens and threatened to kill one of the hostages if British forces don't withdraw from their country.

The hostages were kidnapped in Iraq, in May, by roughly forty gunmen disguised in police uniforms and driving vehicles used by the Iraqi security forces. It's thought that the hostages are an IT consultant and his four bodyguards.

One of the hostages speaks on the film, saying "Today is November 18th. I have been here now 173 days and I feel we've been forgotten." One of the kidnappers threatens to kill the hostage as "a first warning" and chillingly adds "which would be followed with details that you would not wish to know".

The Foreign Office has condemned the taking of the hostages.

Given the past record of British hostages being murdered rather than freed, this is going to be of massive concern to the British government. Gordon Brown really is being tested since taking office...

    • Here's part of the video. The footage broadcast by an Arabic satellite station, was dated November 18, but does not make clear whether the deadline has now expired. The Government has condemned the release of the video, which features of a man believed to be one of the five Britons abducted, and is demanding the hostages be released unconditionally.
