Ray Edwards violated the NFL's substance abuse policy. How long does he have? 4 games. These leagues are not playing games... when will these guys learn.

    • Actually, a four game suspension is pretty harsh especially since most of the guys - with the exception of Merriman from San Diego - getting suspended are semi-fringe players. Remember, that unlike MLB and NBA, only the superstars have super contracts.

Check it out - his contract "only" pays him $360,000 this season. He's losing $84,705.88 for the four-game suspension. Ouch. That should send a strong enough message. Next offense is an eight-game suspension.

      skol vikings!

    • Since so many people are doing it, do you think there will ever be a point where the just legalize it??
Surely, the side effects are a risk, but no more risk than playing the sport itself.

      Legalize Steroids?

    • For those of you who were wondering (I was one of them), being suspended for drugs isn't a paid vacation - that could have explained a lot of things! - and is a suspension without pay. Now, given that these guys make millions, what's a hundred thousand? On the other hand...they make millions, so a 4 game suspension could cost them literally hundreds of thousands of dollars!! Not sure, even with the financial implications, that it's effective given how many there have been this year. Is there a better policy?

    • Yes, it's curious - - make it to the NFL with your whole future ahead of you and take a chance you won't be detected. I think he just learned - let's hope.
