Today's hostage crisis in a Pakistan school was quickly ended after the Pakistan government met the captors demands. All the hostages, which included teachers and students, were safely released with the gunmen turning themselves in to the tribal elders shortly after.
Pakistani Security forces had surrounded a high school in northwestern Pakistan where gunmen on Monday had taken hostage about 30 students and teachers, police said.
Police negotiated with the gunmen, believed to number five or six, holed up at the village school near the town of Bannu, said district police chief Dar Ali Khattak.
The standoff began after the gunmen abducted a health official in a neighboring district and were chased by police, said Liaqat Khan, another local police official.
The government has said that the hostage takers were not militants but local criminals who were fleeing the police.

Both Reuters and the AFP are reporting the number at 250 - apparently police originally reported 25 students being held, but the Interior Minister said there are many more than that - between 200 and 250.
