Study: Cannabis bigger cancer risk than cigarettes

Image

Researchers in New Zealand found that smoking one joint of cannabis (weed, marijuana, whatever term is your favorite) is equal to smoking 20 cigarettes in terms of lung cancer. YIKES.

This is the first study to show a strong link between cannabis use and incidence of lung cancer. Apparently the method of smoking does matter.

Read on to
a) learn about this interesting subject generally,
b) learn how to smoke your cannabis in a way that won't equal 20 cigarettes, or
c) all of the above.

    • This reminds me of a quote that states you can find any facts to back up your opinion. It's not hard to do so. As you can see people find what they want to back up what they think and it doesn't necessarily have to be based on the logic in which they deem factual; just so as long as it backs them up.

    • you know that inhaling the very air that we breath daily is a cancer risk all in its own, right? that all the fumes that your car produces your neighbors car produces so on and so on is a cancer risk? if marijuana became legal what would be the harm, honestly? how does me getting cancer (although i dont believe that at all do to recent california studies that clearly disprove that) effect your personal life? choose for yourselfs ladies and gentlemen, to many people are locked up and killed for marijuana (normaly by people who want there money and have no intrest in the herbs at all) i have been a victim of such arrests. Once again if you dont want to do it dont do it.. but why would you ruin it for those who dont want to drink boose because of the damages that they have on people. Marijuana helps me when im sick, it helps me when im blue, it helps me create music and paintings and it helps me to perform... quit pointing the finger at us like we are the criminals.

    • see now wait a muintue... when people consume 3 cups of coffee and a cigarette on their lunch break... drink 5 glasses of wine and a shot of whiskey befor bed... they should know what they're doing to their bodies... if someone is going to put anything in their body.. wether it be drugs or food.. .or even what we watch and think... they should know what they're doing to themselves.. and if they don't .. that proves how jouvinal and immature that they're being.... this is what it boils down to... you have to know what you're putting into your body.. the risks... the pro's and con's ... just be informed... ignorence is stupid when you're putting something into your mind or body... then you can make the judgemnt wether of not it's someing you wanna do.... you have no ruling over what other peple use or don't use... so yeah...

    • Of course, it's still perfectly fine to consume the accepted government-sanctioned drugs of alcohol, tobacco and caffeine.

Good things those drugs aren't bad for you ;-)

    • well, one argument is that by choosing to harm yourself you are also harming your body in a manner that will likely require medical care and thus burdening our already crappy health care system.

but that's just what some ppl might say.

YOU"RE CHOOSING.... no one else... theres alot of things are bad for you.. but who's to say you can't put what you want into your body as long as it's not interfering of imposing on others rights... • If you directly inhale the smoke of anything that's on fire, especially unfiltered, it will be a cancer risk. You're inhaling carbon monoxide and all kinds of other nasty stuff. So it's not the marijuana per se - it's more the fact that it's burning material that is spitting out all kinds of nasty stuff.

But yeah, I heard somewhere that they have these things called water pipes and vaporizers that take care of those issues.... er, I mean, I read about it in the New York Times or something maybe... ;-)

    • anybody know of a good VAPORIZER? I was looking into buying the "Volcano Vaporizer" but one article I read said that the plastic mouth piece may also release carcinogenic particles.

      What's the solution?

    • This surely isn't a surprise to anyone.

If people are smoking 'spliffs' all day every day then surely lung cancer is an inevitable consequence. The people that believe smoking cannabis does no harm compared to those who only smoke cigarettes have obviously smoked a little too much of that 'wacky-backy.'

There are alternative means to getting high, unfortunately, none are any less illegal. Just as this granny found out...
