THIS DOCUMENTARY IS TOO IMPORTANT TO MISS! It completely contradicts almost everything our government and President are telling us about how things are going in Iraq and it is FROM THE SOURCE; an Iraqi Doctor on the front line. Even he was finally forced to stop filming and to leave the country and is now studying journalism on a Fulbright Scholarship here in America. In this movie, you will hear Iraqis themselves tell you about the state of affairs over there (and NOT inside the protected Green Zone where all our people report from, where they are protected and shielded from the reality). There is an injured woman in the film riding in the back of an ambulance and she is wailing "Bring back Saddam. It was not like this under him." This woman is a Shia....they HATED Saddam...and welcomed the invasion at first, thinking they would be freed from Sunni rule...but now even the Shia say things are worse, that now even brothers kill brothers, that the violence is CONSTANT, every day there are bombings and killings. We are being lied to, our soldiers are being used, and the human tragedy is incomprehensible.------------------------------------------If you missed the first two showings of this already, there are still three more. Don't know if folks here have satellite or cable so check the HBO lineup for your provider. For satellite viewers, the last three showings are 1/31 at 12:45am, then gain on Saturday at 5pm and 8pm. The channel changes for each so check your schedule.-

redryan: Watched it three times (albeit with screaming kids, barking dogs, et al for accompaniment) and missed that intro every time....however I did see the Doc walking around with a date book that read "2006" when I watched it the second time. Being I am not a sport fan, the World Cup would not have registered in my mind at all. Couldn't tell you when it was played or what sport!

well if you've watched the doc then you know that he says 'three years after the invasion' in the intro. also you see throughout the movie the hospital staff continuously talks about the world cup. however, i'm just pointing out this material is a bit outdated in relation to actions taken after it was filmed and has nothing to do with my view of the morality of the situation. i've just got this feeling that everyone is giving into the tendency to be overly critical for the sake of being part the mob. you know i kinda had a hard time writing that last bit but to give everyone a very simple-minded approach to history, this presidency is very much like that of andrew jackson. heralded by most in his time as an emperor wielding the scepter of dictatorship that committed horrible atrocities. personally i think people were right then and are right now, but out of the jackson presidency came the precedent of modern american politics and civil rights. now at this point i almost threw up, but it's worth mentioning that at the end of the tunnel there is in fact light and that might illuminate some things that we might not see and appreciate if we become to blinded by hardheadedness.
this is a short clip from a doc that i urge everyone to watch because it's so relevant to today in so many ways. it was edited so keep that in mind

covelogibbs: No, this hospital was in Iraq'a red zone and treats Iraqi's. In fact for the filming, many of the patients being brought in were innocent women and children. It was really tragic....adn when a Shia woman starts saying life was better under Saddam (Shias hated Saddam), that's pretty telling.

They didn't state in the credits that it was filmed two years ago and the copyright was more recent than that. Where did you get info about when it was filmed?

The surge is nothing but a temporary band-aid on gaping wound. A total waste of time, money and lives, just like the whole Iraq war. I guess if you want to create generations of people that hate America it is good for that.
How Bush/Cheney remain in office is beyond me. Republicans should especially be dismayed at the betrayal from the executive branch. I hate to say it, but how much worse could things get?

i justed wanted to clear some things up here. barkway, i'm not disagreeing with you it's just that i think your being overzealous with this particular subject. i'd be stupid to sit here and tell you that the government hasn't lied to you and that one of the 44 (i think) bush scandals are condonable let alone legal, but i think there was a little misrepresentation in your angst. when i say little i mean little because this documentary was filmed two summers ago when sectarian violence was peaking, right before the surge. it just seems to me a lot of things have happened since those two years. not to say we are winning but just to say there has been a slight improvement with emphasis on slight. whether that improvement is acceptable is another profound question and debate. however, it could be that im just an ignorant fool that writes sh!% on his labtop in America. anyway, i agree that anyone who has access to hbo should see this immediately.

you'll find the 2nd and 3rd parts of this especially interesting as well... (even the 1st part as well although I don't think it's actually quite as relevant to the way our government subverts our expectations today.)
thanks for this!!! I'll check it out...
