A £10m architectural centre built as a memorial to murdered teenager Stephen Lawrence has been vandalised just a week after it opened.
Eight windows each worth £15,000 and designed by the Turner prizewinning artist Chris Ofili on the front of the new building in south-east London were destroyed.
A Metropolitan police spokeswoman confirmed the attack was being treated as a racist incident.
Stephen Lawrence was stabbed to death in a racially-motivated attack while waiting for a bus one evening in 1993.

If it is found to be a racially motivated attack then the people should not only be ashamed that they feel the need to go to these lengths, but that they have also ruined a sculpture that is a Turner Prize art piece in it's own right.
