Train surfers get spray painted in Indonesia

Danielle_Lessovitz
No, it is not art. Officials in Indonesia have begun spraying "roof riders" with a coloured liquid in order to identify and arrest them once they step onto the train platform. Train surfing, or riding on the outside of a train car, is a common practice during peak hours in Indonesia when space on the train is limited and when fewer passengers have money to pay the fare.

    • It's just an illustration of a part of human nature that we may not want to acknowledge. See, some of us have a deep seated belief that there is a shortage of stuff. And the fact that there IS this shortage, we have to figure out who among us is going to be expendable when we try to divide up the stuff. Who are we going to leave out? We have this phenomenon in our social/political situation in our culture. We decide that there are some amongst US who somehow don't deserve to take part when we divide up the stuff.

Our political/social agenda is sometimes decided by these "values" people who get to the podium and tell us that abortion is murder. And that the people who do the abortions are guilty of a crime of murder. Or that that, same sex union is against the institution of marriage. Even though over 50% of the REGULAR marriages fail (alcoholism and suicide may be failed marriages) we have to condemn same sex marriages. And the same people who pass judgment about reproductive rights, would be the first ones to begin making soap factories to dispose of the unemployed people who were never planned by their parents.

Our MSM is quick to point out these phenomenon when they surface in OTHER countries, but you won't hear a peep out of them when the same thing happens in OUR country. I'm not in favor of abortion either, but I also not in favor of building soap factories to dispose of the unemployment problem.

    • Maybe I'm nuts, but perhaps adding more trains with more capacity would help. You know, so people aren't hanging out the doors?

    • It is a neat idea...but I feel kinda bad for the people. If they couldn't afford to pay the train fare, they probably also can't afford new clothes to replace the ones that just got paint sprayed all over them.

    • I love ideas like this! Think outside of the box! I'd love to be the guy to do it, chasing people round with a ghostbuster pack of paint on your back..

      Where do I sign?
