This could initially sound a little New-Age-y to some, but a close friend assures me this is going to be very cool and inspirational 5-day event this April. Desmond Tutu and Dave Matthews are all contributing, the Dalai Lama is headlining/hosting.

April 11-15, 2008, Seattle, WA

From their web site:

"An unprecedented gathering to engage the hearts and minds of our community by highlighting the vision, science, and programs of early social, emotional, and cognitive learning.

Anchored by the deep wisdom of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, this community–focused event will celebrate and explore the relationships, programs and tools that nurture and empower children, families and communities to be compassionate members of society.

Each of the five days will provide parents, educators, business and community leaders with an opportunity to better understand the real benefits of compassion, and concrete steps on how to bring compassion into their lives.”

    • I was lucky enough to see him today at Quest Field where he talked at length about the compassion we need to share with the world. He declared war an out dated concept saying that it's place in our world should of ended in the 19th century. What struck me is that he was extremely humble, genuine, and funny. Cracking jokes with his interpretor or with the crowd. At one point he said: All our troubles in the world are man made. And I mean 'Man' made. Women are far less troublesome. Washington governor Christina Gregoire found that particularly humorous.

When asked during the Q & A what the people of the nations across the globe could do to persuade their leaders to rule with compassion and peace instead of fear and war. After a short moment the Dalai Lama responded: The true answer to that question is I don't know. I am only one of 6 billion and rely on them for my survival as they rely on me for theirs.
