US jobless data worse than feared

US employers shed 80,000 jobs in March, Labor Department figures have shown, in the latest sign that the US economy may be falling into recession.

The decline was the third monthly drop in succession, and worse than market expectations of a 60,000 reduction.

The jobless rate rose to 5.1% in March, the highest level since September 2005, and a rise from February's 4.8%.

Federal Reserve boss Ben Bernanke warned earlier this week that the US economy faced the risk of recession.

    • So what happens next? What do those people who lost their jobs do if theres not any other jobs for them to go into? How do we turn this god awful number around? What is our Gov't doing to try and fix this?

So many questions, so little answers! This has got to change!

    • I see this whole "we may be heading towards a recession" BS all over the news. I think we are in one, the start of one maybe. I seriously doubt we are going to avoid "heading towards a recession" because jobs are being cut everyday. I know friends who have been told they are no longer employed by the company because they cant afford to employ them. I see schools and districts letting go of people. SO why does the media feed us horse sh*t and tell us we might be going into recession. We either are or not, STOP feeding us the BS. We deserve to know. I think that 2008 is going to be a BAD year for the US and its going to probably be the start of worse times to come. For those of you who enjoy spending and the high life, brace yourself. I, myself, have started cutting back on alot and will continue to do so.
Well best of luck to all those who are feeling the pinches of what is going on and LOADS of help to those that are living in denial of the situation.
Maniology, my anger is not directed towards you, so please dont take it as so. Thanks for the post.
