Jimmy Carter is accusing Sec. State Rice of being untruthful after she stated that she had advised him not to speak with Hamas on his recent visit to the middle east-

They are grossly incompetent - but very good at making up lies to cover themselves. There is nothing brilliant about Condosleazy Rice whatsoever.
I hope she doesn't return to California either. We don't want her. I'm sure she can find work elsewhere, like the middle east - as Iraq. I hear they have lots of opening there.

how come this doesn't surprise me?
this is the same state department which has succeeded in taking low level conflicts in iraq and turned them into a major occupation, has turned a peaceful lebanese conflict into a war, has turned a peaceful somalia into a nationless people with over 2 million refugees, it has turned the ethiopia-eritrea conflict into an unresolvable problem. the issues in the congo, kenya, sudan, n. korea, iran, syria, israel, and palestine still unresolved. Re-triggered the space arms race with the russians.
the issue of afgahanistan, unresolved.
what have they done right besides increasing the arms sales, obviously?
please let me know. - 5 years ago

I applaud Mr. Carter for at least trying to get the ball rolling toward peace. It's better than anything the current administration has done. He's at least trying to reach out to Hamas to get their view.

It's remarkable how courageous Jimmy Carter is and continues to be. All this despite popular opinion assuming he's a loose cannon at best, and a traitor to Israel at worst. The informal buzz in the Jewish community is Carter naively embraces Israel's most lethal enemy. Defending him among fellow Jews is no easy task.
From my perspective, he is an experienced negotiator, pressing ahead in a region fraught with contradictions and lethal animosities. Diplomacy, in combination with well-considered economic rewards and punishments might move the ball forward. Clearly Carter can't set things right alone. But it's a positive start.
The Rice approach has led to precious little.

I challenge you to read a book by President Carter. You will find that he is just a brilliant now as he ever was. He is a person who has dedicated his life to peace and helping the poor and the oppressed. He has endured horrible lies, insults, and critisism by people with their own agendas. People from the George W. Bush administration travel around the world waging wars behind the American flag and President Carter travels around the world waging PEACE. As the Christians say; "blessed are the peace makers."

I just hope that despite tenure Stanford doesn't bring her back here to Palo Alto! Without a doubt, she's amongst the most deceitful, ill-intended, self-serving academics in the Bush Administration (and that's saying a whole lot given his roster of inveterate liars).

History will place Rice near the top of the list of case studies in denial for personal power's sake. Like all other Bush loyalists, she must pay for her ongoing crimes against humanity.
Jimmy Carter is a true leader by way of example and someone to be admired for his many accomplishments.
We haven't had this much need to gut an entire administration since Nixon. Even that wasn't handled correctly. Look at some of the faces still close enough to GWB to whisper in his ear. They've worked for Nixon, Reagan and Bush Sr. Some even worked for (or against) Clinton.
It isn't enough to "Vote For Change".
Justice must prevail and time must be served.
I say, "Vote For Justice". - 5 years ago

Secretary Rice has distiguished herself as a brilliant lier. While Ms. Rice is an acknowledged genius and has many "accomplishments" behind her, I am curious about her honor and credibility mentioned by kspeed27. Does anyone have a record of something TRULY honorable and credible she has done? I'm looking for something on the scale of....let's see....maybe on the scale of a war. Has she reintroduced power to the grid in a third world country. Has she done a damn thing to settle the Iraeli conflict? Darfur? She shames our Democracy with her Bill Clintonish double speak. But I guess that depends on how you define truth, honor and the American way.

This sort of thing does not surprise me with Secretary of State Rice anymore. What did surprise me was the outrageous attempt by Rep. Sue Myrick to revoke President Carter's passport! Instead of resorting to their old bureaucratic hamstringing tactics they should have had pen and paper in hand and enjoyed a lesson in diplomacy.

Damn it! Do the Bush cronies have to lie about EVERYTHING!?!?! This seems like such a trivial issue for Rice to lie about. I just don't understand these people.

She's not in jail? What??? I thought it was a crime to commit perjury!
That's right, I encountered some criminals, they were employees of the State of California's Department of Consumer Affairs - who committed perjury under oath, but that was all washed under the table.
Perjury is a FELONY offense!!!! Why do these terrible people get away with it? What a mess.
More power to Jimmy Carter!!!!!!!

Yes, she is. I think she may have bit off more than she can chew this time. Everyone knows that Jimmy Carter is HONEST. They also know she is a journeyman liar. She is a disgrace to herself, her behavior does not reflect on the African American community. She is not their fault.

This article was confusing, if not misleading. After reading the whole thing, I wasn't able to determine when President Carter said Secretary Rice said he wasn't telling the truth. Whom did he say this to? When? Just a couple paragraphs down, it says that on Monday, Carter denied that Rice "counseled" him.

Imagine my shock. One of George W's people being untruthful? LMAO
We have become a bit dysfunctional, haven't we? When someone tries to use diplomacy to try to alleviate a desperate situation, one would think we would appreciate the effort? One would be wrong.
