Stand Up For Your Rights, Proof It Works: FBI Backs Off From Secret Order for Data After Lawsuit

In this Washington Post article they state that this is the third time the FBI backed off. I know they are trying to protect the USA and are probably under White House orders, but enough is enough! Why can't the FBI stand up for our rights as well? They're there to protect and serve. Not protect and serve madmen that believe the Constitution is "...only a piece of paper." (there may have been an expletive there in that quote from a high ranking person in the white house, I have not researched the authenticity of that!)

What I'm saying is that the US Government should not be trying to find every which way to remove and step all over our rights. The police, the FBI, the CIA all should have the guts to say: Enough is enough, we will not destroy the Constitution, so play by the rules or go to jail!

    • That is exactly what is happening here in San Francisco in the area of Transportation and Acoustics. It is the same as the Tobacco Industry issue that exploded all over US. Different issue, same dirty tactics. Our local Transportation Czars are in the hands of a Board of Acoustic Psychopaths and we need to reach and tell as much people as possible to get out of their own apathy and act to stop it. Not Tomorrow, not Yesterday, it is Today! Stop it Today! These people are acoustic terrorists using the Public Transportation to Passively and Aggressively abuse people in the City. Now, guess what? They have been doing it for (7) Seven Years in the row! This is a Local and Federal Issue and the FBI should be working to Arrest the creator(s) of it and Stop it! Therefore here are my quests: - Why they are not doing their job? -What spoofed them so badly to the point of turning them into inactive stones?

    • yea, its a shame people have to spend so much money to fight the government even they know they are wrong. Thats when coming together pays off. Governments know it costs mucho denaro to fight for whats right and will try to drain the opposing parties funds with litigation and the rest. (civil and criminal trials as well!) Bravo to EFF and the ACLU and kudos to the FBI for knowing it was a losing battle and not right to begin with.

    • In the SF paper here's Kahle's quote:

Although his lawyers worked for free, he said, the fact that they had to invest tens of thousands of dollars' worth of their time "just so we can be a library is downright depressing."

    • "We see this as an unqualified success," said Brewster Kahle, the archive's co-founder and digital librarian. "The goal here was to help other recipients of NSLs to understand that you can push back."

Nice! Interesting article, WorldPeaceTV. Generally, I place a bit more faith in the FBI than the CIA. It is still nice to see the Internet Archive stand firm against "Big Brother."
