Ola, being part of the Bush administration is diametrically opposed to retaining your soul, and one thing I don't hear anybody talking about is the cockroach theory. If you see one come out of the base board, there are thousands behind it.

I saw this being covered on the Today Show. I was amazed they were actually talking about an important issue and not about the latest celebrity wedding.
I believe this guy. i don't think he's saying these things now because he no longer has anything to lose. He still has strong connections to righties and lefties, no doubt about it. They even said it during the interview; some of his friends are upset. He has a reputation and the almighty "bush legacy" to lose but he would rather tell the Americans people, and the world, what really happened.

i agree with uroborus8, he should act as a witness for the prosecution in a war crimes case. i know i would.

McClellan is irrelevant now! It's your Congress and Senate that should be addressing the issues brought out in his book as well as all the other books that have come out during this administration.

Making money from writing books and traveling the circuit, becoming lobbyists, while we toil away in the destruction caused by this administration, lays in the lap of Nancy Pelosi. Both Democrats and Republicans should not be able to walk away unscathed by this. Someone needs to take action now! They all should be held accountable. No secret votes. Not campaign rhetoric! The most shocking part of this story is that McClellan finally conveyed some concrete information. Semi-LOL.

I still think he should face charges, as should ANYONE who contributed to Bush's War in Iraq and all the other criminal activities that led to it. Just because you cash in on your backstage pass to the a-hole show doesn't exempt you.

The sad thing is that most of these people that provide such stark revelations about the inner workings of such a secretive and expansive government all do so using book deals to make a profit, rather than through a media outlet.

Do we rely on the truth of these statements before concerning ourselves with the motivation for providing such damning insights?

Scott McClellan is attempting to rehabilitate the legacy of Scott McClellan. Period. He sees the Bush ship going down, and wants to jump off of it before it sinks entirely. Oh, yeah, and make some Big Bucks while he's at it.

Not surprising, coming from a man who got up every morning, knowing he was going to lie to the American people all day long. He's so good at spin, he probably wrote that book in his sleep.

A lot of people are saying, "oh! He's only saying this for money!"

Nope.

Why didn't he speak up earlier? Two good reasons: Like many others, he's just weak! He didn't have the guts to punch Dick Cheney in the face and storm out. Second, look at the environment he was in -- only a few years ago if Bush declared someone "unpatriotic" the Press Corps was already writing it as Gospel and declaing that whomever Bush put the stink eye on was the most dastardly psychotic America-Hater since Hitler.

So you got a guy who isn't very strong-willed going with the flow because a) he's intimidated and cowed by much stronger personalities (Bush & Cheney) and b) he saw first hand to everyone that tried to call Bush a madman -- the Bush Team lynched them and the Press Corp was right there cheering them on.

We see teenagers bend to this kind of pressure all the time. Sometimes people can hit 40 and still have the same weaknesses they did at 16 -- and Scott looks like one of those people who didn't have the guts to stand up to the jocks who were doing shit he knew was wrong.

So now that it's "safe" to tell the truth and he doesn't have to worry about any payback from Bush (who is now weak) and the Press Corp isn't quite so insane, yeah, now he feels like he can tell the truth.

I agree that it;s all coming apart at the seams! A little here, a lot there and whamo! Prison time for a whole of people.

I knew that forums like this were getting the word out, but I wasn't sure if people were ready to take action. However, I had encouragement on that front last night when several hundred people showed up to protest out of control housing development in Arizona. Usually a handful of people show up at the Homeowner's Meeting, whine a little, eat the free cookies and go home.

Not last night! Petitions were signed, people took action items and our "elected" officials were called to the scene. If this happened in one night, around one issue, the organization, the thought process and the momentum until the November election has the potential to go over the top!

I think all of these revelations of how poorly the White House Press Corps (and the media surrounding the generation before the war) should make them rethink the presence of cameras in the briefing room. It's hard to ask hard questions in a forceful enough manner that they may get answered if it just makes "those journalists" look "elitist" or "rude." I'm sure McClellan would have appreciated some honest conversations.

Mc Clellan "The Prodigal Son"? Oh say it isn't so! Hell, I expected this from Colin Powell, but not Mc Clellan. Something in my heart challenges the sincerity and the release of this publication at this time. A true liberal would be delighted to have such a juicey morsel to chew on until the next scandalous revelation. However, this so happens to be crux of the issue if one surveys only the surface of things. I might have been classified as a conservative prior to the Iraq war, but immediately recanted my position upon the administration's decision to invade. At that time, as a resident of middle America, very few within my proximity took a stand against the war. It was a time of great disillusionment, but I couldn't deny what my heart, nor history was telling me.

So you can imagine my sentiments toward an individual such as Mc Clellan who adapted the staunch policies of the Bush administration to deceive the public by any means necessary. Mc Clellan could have done the right thing by resigning as others had during the exodus of the first administration as a matter of conscience, but he cowered under the pressure of conformity. In contrast, I didn't stand to profit from my beliefs, but rather lived in fear because of them. During those times Mc Clellan stood as nothing short of being part of an authoritarian machine, silencing and stonewalling the critics of the Bush administration.

Are you aware of the profit potential for ex-governmental officials traveling the circuit? Let's just say Scott stands to profit somewhere around $10 million for doing what he's good at, neither confirming nor denying anything. In turn, he also places the burden back upon the Bush administration to answer for questions long held in the minds of those who questioned governmental policies of late. Indeed, this might be construed as treasonous behavior on Scott's part, but it has the makings of an excellent screenplay for Hollywood writers. It's difficult to say whether Scott is truly disgruntled, greedy, or broke like the rest of us. Either way, I have to give him credit for sticking it to "The Man" on his way out.

McClellan would make an excellent witness for the prosecution in a war crimes case, wouldn't he?

This is precisely why we need to have a National Whistle Blower Protection and Journalism Shield Law to protect people when they are in the thick of the matter and have an incentive to come out of the the closet of LIES.

Don't buy the book and support a guy with no balls who is only looking to profit off the presidents current unpopularity. Where was his book when it actually mattered or could have done something?

Cynicism aside, I am rather uplifted - I actually saw this on CNN, as a "top story."
Whatever this dude's motivations were/ are, it is a step in the right direction.
It certainly doesn't sound like another lie...more like what we all knew to begin with is close to being made "official."

Well, he certainly didn't zombiefy anyone other than those who were already blind sheep...But I'm still curious as to what he has to say now. I for one fully believe the statements made in this book.Bush is a liar,a war profiteer,and is embarassingly stupid to bat.The only thing in the book I disagree with is the statement that bush is intelligent enough to be president.Clearly this is not the case.His legacy(yes,unfortunately he will have one)will be one of ineptitude,incompetence,and greed (although cheney beats him out on that last one).

The white house shouldn't be in charge of who gets a seat in the white house press corpse or not beyond security checks perhaps.
