"A homeless woman who sneaked into a man's house and lived undetected in his closet for a year was arrested in Japan after he became suspicious when food mysteriously began disappearing.Police found the 58-year-old woman Thursday hiding in the top compartment of the man's closet and arrested her for trespassing, police spokesman Hiroki Itakura from southern Kasuya town said Friday.
The resident of the home installed security cameras that transmitted images to his mobile phone after becoming puzzled by food disappearing from his kitchen over the past several months.
One of the cameras captured someone moving inside his home Thursday after he had left, and he called police believing it was a burglar. However, when they arrived they found the door locked and all windows closed.
'We searched the house ... checking everywhere someone could possibly hide,' Itakura said. 'When we slid open the shelf closet, there she was, nervously curled up on her side.'
The woman told police she had no place to live and first sneaked into the man's house about a year ago when he left it unlocked.
She had moved a mattress into the small closet space and even took showers, Itakura said, calling the woman 'neat and clean.'"

I might as well live in my best friend's closet for a year to see what he *really* thinks about me when I'm not watching... hahahaha... and check out all the girls he chats with on msn... xD
Better check my closet before going to sleep... maybe Shane West is living in my closet for 5 years. I'm running out of peanut butter way too fast. LOL!

I had NO idea this ended up on TV. Yay!
However, I didn't get notified and it hasn't shown on my profile... so if any current.com tech people see this... I would love for it to be added.
Thanks. - 4 years ago

Whoa! coolest 58 year old woman ever !
I mean, a whole year undetected !i doubt she just took food those last weeks, and i bet she was taking showers and watching tv everyday, otherwise, how did she survived a whole year there?
haha "neat and clean"
she deserves to be free! - 4 years ago

I love this story! But how could he not notice her for an entire year? She "borrowed" food and the mans shower. Is this guy blind or terminally unobservant? Oh well, at least she was "neat and clean."

What a sad story. :-( The 'neat and tidy' woman just needed somewhere to live. But I wonder how this was perceived in Japan. Maybe me being American makes me more sympathetic, but I really wonder what the perspective of that guy who owned the house was .... he was probably freaked out. And I don't deny that I wouldn't be if I were in that situation. I guess in this case, it's all a matter of perspective.

wow, i can't imagine being in his shoes. hopefully I'm more observant and would
realize someone living in my house sooner than he did. how in the world could your first
clue be missing food? couldn't he hear her? If she took showers, wouldn't he have found long
hairs in the shower? wouldn't the water bill have gone up? were and how did she get that
mattress?! - 4 years ago

Talk about low impact green living. Too bad we all can't live which such low impact on our surroundings.

You know it doesn't suprise me. Some peoples closets are the size of apartments, so why not move in to one. All the cloths would probably hide the fact your even there. Can I live in Angelina Jolie's closet?

Can you imagine if someone were to just randomly stumble upon her one day?
It would look like he kept her locked up, or something.

A whole year. She should get some sort of stealth medal or something. How about a discount on the charges? She could have done so much damage to him and his wellbeing but thought it best to just stay in the closet like some sort of rodent.
Amazing.

That is so Japanese! Even intruders have enough respect to keep the place clean and tidy. Clearly, the woman just needed food and shelter and didn't steal anything beyond her immediate needs. What a wonderful society!

What is amazing to me is that it took him a whole year to find out. He must not have been home much! She sounds likea much better roommate that I have had in the past...hardly knowing that they were there.
