His resignation will trigger a by-election which he will fight on the grounds that he is against government's increasing intrusion into the public's lives.
In a statement, Mr Davis said the creation of a "database state" could not continue.
"It must be stopped," he said, "and for that reason it is incumbent on me to take a stand.
"I will be resigning my membership of this house and force a by-election.
"I will fight this by-election on the issue of relentless erosion of fundamental British freedoms."

Painful that it takes a proponent for capitol punishment to bring civil liberties onto the public agenda.

This feels like a bit of the old smoke and mirrors.
He sits there thoughout the detention debate and news hungry fleet street print not one word of Mr Davis's concerns, then he jacks in the job with the only leverage in the world he seems to have.
Was he pushed , did he jump ?

Regardless of his political party, he's drawing attention to a very important issue. We don't want our country's government to end up doing what George Bush's administration did with the Guantanamo Bay detainees...

Beg my pardon. It'll have to be something I have to read at a latter moment. But seeing how I don't know a lot about how the British Government works....ha. I have a general idea.

It's a sad day when I back a Tory but his speech lays out quite clearly what's really at stake here. The link is to a transcript of the complete speech.

Surely just highlighting he was against it would have been enough. Quitting his position seems a bit over-dramatic to me, imagine how much of a bozo he'll feel if he doesn't get re-elected.
You can check out Davis' resignation speech at the link:

Was Robin Cook a bozo for resigning? Very different men, with very different agenda's but you gotta give Davis his due, and at least this one isn't just going by quietly in the night. It should have been a Labour MP but they're all clearly running scared.
