I agree with you for the reason that just looking at the footage doesn't say much. If we knew what the footage meant, then that would be a greater determinant of whether we are more or less impressed by the footage. I haven't looked at the article, so I don't know if the footage explains more after looking at the article, but without any extra explanation, I guess the only response we can give is: "Ooooh, pretty!" (Unless you have a strong enough background in astronomy or whatever field deals with exploding stars). Anyway, that's what I think.

Hmmm... just a thought. I wonder what the proportion of the star that exploded is compared to the sun. I'm sure it's large, but I'm still curious.

if i remember right, this star would have been massive compared to our star. ultra big ones burn through their fuel really fast and makes them quite volatile.
our sun will expand to a red giant but then collapse into a white dwarf. not enough matter for a supernova.
bummer.
