Ok, Milan is polluted but it is not THAT bad. The authors are exaggerating.

This makes me sick. Comparing one catastrophe to another doesn't really help things, unless we realize how to solve these issues of pollution.

Even though Milan comes out as most polluted, it still wouldn't put me off - too many shoe shops to be deterred!

mjsmith11,
If you're going to insult a city, make sure you spell its name correctly. There's a bit of a "h" at the end.superkiy,
Ouch. - 3 years ago

It is wrong for me to insult Pittsburgh or any other place. I never said I was perfect.

Sorry for being so touchy about that, but its my hometown. Imagine if someone pointed to an article that said your hometown is an abominable hellhole, even though you know that the accusation is a load of crap. Even the most minute slight against your town, whether it be intentional or not, could set you off. I apologize if I flew off the handle a bit, but I hope you understand why I did that.

Calcutta must have cleaned up their act some...
This is a sorry state of existence we've found ourselves in. Time to clean it up, don't you think?

Also, the monitoring station for the area is next to a coke (not the drink) factory. That'll throw off the data just a tad.

I don't think that Pittsburgh should be on this list. The author admits the majority of the pollution present here probably came from factories in Ohio, so it's more than likely that it's not our fault.

I wonder how many are polluted because of American corporations?

Marilynn_Murray, With the exception of Pittsburg, the answer is zero. Read the link. Your "Blame America First" knee-jerk response to everything wrong with the Worls does not apply here.

Marilynn_Murray:
Not necessarily, mjsmith11 - many of the third world's mining and chemical industries are owned by American corporations - none of the texts with the photos name the companies, so they could just as likely be US-corporation-owned as not. Where cars are the major polluters, I'm willing to bet that most of the cars were made in the USA and that the lower-grade gasoline sold in countries like Mexico is largely of US corporation origin such as Texaco, etc. One city that is omitted from that list of ten cities is Bhopal - will you also insist that it is the people of Bhopal who are solely responsible for their massive poisoning?

Marilynn_Murray:
Vierotchka,
Mexico has plenty of its own oil. I could not imagine why Mexico would ever need to import oil from the USA. Bhopal is not on the list. I will look into that place out of interest, now that you mention such a place on Earth exists. - 3 years ago
