Obviously you have no idea what is happening here:
The United States has been, more or less, a melting pot.
European nations really have not been that way. Most of the folks that are different yet still members of the greater "British Empire" (read Muslims) have now decided to come to back to the seat of the empire..The UK...
They are the "immigrants" and their first born...first generation Brit kids from their families....
Are NOT assimilating into the British Culture at all.
A MAJOR PROBLEM.
Now, given what I just said...
What in blazes is wrong to ask...
Where is YOUR Patriotism?
Are you so Muslim that you really can't stand the UK and if so, perhaps, you need to find another place to live?
Or are you really British?
One more thing...
I'm second generation American of British Heritage!

more importantly why is there a puppy in the ad at all?
police ads should have grizzly bears or a mountain lions, or at the very least an attack dog. - 3 years ago

The frankly offensive comments of which Paratus and PatrickEdwardMurray's represent show how the negative stereotyping of articles of this nature only fuel hideous racist generalizations, portraying Muslims as killers and calling for them 'to go back home'. This IS their home, whether the Daily Mail, the National Front or version of the Nazi party you may belong to. Disgusting and shameful.

If Brit Muslims don't like dogs...
Then Brit Muslims shouldn't have anything to do with dogs! And they wonder exactly why we don't like them?
Maybe it's time to ask them are they British or are they Muslim...
Maybe it's time for those Muslims who want to smack Brits in the nose to go find somewhere else to live?

For crying out loud!! There's always someone somewhere who's ready to twist and warp things completely out of context until it can be accused of being anti-PC, ageist, sexist or, in this case, racist.
Get a grip. . . . . and a life!!!!! It's a picture of a puppy for gods sake. I'm sure if we all over-analysed things enough, we'd all find something to be offended about.
The worst thing about this is that the police ended up apologising. . . . . . for what!?!?!? Are they having a larf!?!?!?

There are a slew of images that people find offensive or that portray things that do not jive with one's religion...are we seriously going to worry about all of that nonsense? There would be no advertising, no art, no communication if we were all so concerned about photos of things a religion doesn't view at "cleanly".
Does that mean I can't show a Jewish person a photo of a pig?

Im not too sure how a image of a dog is offensive... and im sure most other Muslims will feel the same way, because at the end of the day people dont find looking at a dog in the street for example 'offensive'.
However as far as i understand the only issue Muslims have with dogs is... during prayer times Muslims musn't come in contact with dogs because contact with the saliva of dogs will mean they will have to do the ritual washing again & thats about it!
So i disagree that posting a image of a dog was in anyway 'offensive' to Muslims or Islam.

I've never seen a dog eat its own feces. They will return to their own vomit. But maybe, a Muslim owned dog has no other choice. Man's inhumanity can be measured by the way they treat the animals given to their care by God.

you know tolerance is a two-way street. Those idiot protestors ought to think about that before they lose their heads over a damn dog and not even a dog - a picture of a damn dog.
But at the same those idiots should not be considered representatives of the entirity of Muslim-dom by other idiots.

Different things offend different Muslims. Like Gay marriage offends some Christians.
The press love to blow these stories up. This was probably a couple of shop keepers who didn't want to put an image in there shop window.
Thats fine by me, why not its their shop. I'm sure the Tayside police weren't hinging their entire anti crime alternative emergency number on these shop keepers.
Also i don't suppose the Muslim community asked for an apology the Police are just being polite.

Yes, of course, Muslim does not equal Arabic, but I'd be very surprised if it doesn't equate to that in the current climate in the mind of most Daily Mail readers, or the intention of the newspaper itself.
The reason I made the comparison with the Gypsy article was that it inferred all Gypsies in Rome were pickpocket and that all pickpocket were Gypsies.
I only bought race up in the context of the Mail, where the piece was clipped from.

What a strange advert. It's looks like a petrified puppy pooping into a police hat. Is that the kind of non-emergency they're talking about? Or is that what I get connected to when I call that number?
Apparently they used the puppy because its blog was amazingly popular online. Yep, the puppy's blog. We really have gone through the looking glass.

It's sad that a community can't realise why a rule might have been set in place in a time when dogs ran wild in the streets and it was a wise to have caution around them, and that it may not be applicable to a puppy on a police helmet... Oh it's the Mail, forget what I just said, it's only more stirring up of racial misunderstanding. Yesterday they ran a story justifying the recent spate of racist attacks, and right wing legislation in Rome upon their gypsy community.

I don't think an apology was necessary as there was no malicious intent, but I do understand why the ad was withdrawn. Ads are about communication and if, for whatever reason, an ad fails to reach out to one of your target groups, it makes sense to make the necessary adjustments.

The United Kingdom is traditionally a nation of dog lovers. To the best of my knowledge, Muslims' objectic to dogs because the Prophet Muhammad thought them to be unclean; this blatantly does not stop them from looking at a picture of a dog, and I find it hard to imagine how someone could feel genuinely offence and "outrage" at a picture of a small animal.
I quote: "Muslims complained that Islamic tradition warns them against CONTACT with dogs. This is an image of a dog." (I don't mind a picture of a charging rhino, but contact with the real thing would offend me greatly.)
However, the issue the MP raises in the article is a god one: the point is to get the message across to Muslim communities, and if they are less likely to take in the important information, which is for everyone's safety, with a dog on it, put a cat (which Muslims in fact respect); everybody loves cats! The point is, if there's a choice, go with what is going to be the most pleasing advert for citizens, no matter how ridiculous the 'offense' would be.
And seriously, how, out of two very similar animals can you pick one animal to be 'offended' by, and one to love: Aren't they both Gods creatures???

this is stupid.
Muslims don't want contact with dogs!? It's a picture on a postcard... no one's forcing them to be near actual dogs. Which fair enough would be a breach of their cultural tradition, and probably human rights.
Or does contact include talking to dogs and do they think that dogs are going to be answering the phone!?As other people have said I'm completely for racial equality and (more importantly) integration but this is absolutely ridiculous

I cannot see the offence that has been caused. No muslims have been forced into contact with dogs which they see as unclean. Are we all supposed to pretend that dogs don't exist? I like dogs!!
I am 110% behind racial and ethnic equality but this is quite ridiculous.

Sometimes it worries me that we feel the need to apolgise for things like this. It doesn't even appear to be a belief just a tradition.
I don't have a problem with the police force accepting the tradition and changing the advert by why apologise?
