Environmentalists dismiss G-8 emissions target

"At this rate, by 2050 the world will be cooked and the G-8 leaders will be long forgotten," Antonio Hill, spokesman for Oxfam International, told The Associated Press.

"The G-8's endorsement of a tepid 50 by 50 climate goal leaves us with a 50-50 chance of a climate meltdown. Rather than a breakthrough, the G-8's announcement on 2050 is another stalling tactic," he said.

Teh G-8 needs to get its act together. We need leaders that are willing to make the steps towards improving this planets environmental situation now !

    • because they think they need to buy time to choose among wrong paths to take, as long as it does not involve equal distribution of wealth nor peace, as long as those who can buy anything and everything, can continue doing so.

      there is plotting and it is sickening

      by omitting china and india all that is created is a division between those who can EASILY start turning into the green gear (but dont want to cause of the balancing of the social equation that they dont want), and those who have more to lose, only because they lack the proper resources at the present time (unless the tables turn and there is for once honest cooperation between all social organizations and those who they represent)

    • A main problem with the G8 is that two of the biggest pollution offenders China and India are not even included. Global warming is now a global issue, so it is vital that these two countries be included in some way. We all know China is the worst offender and has horrendous environmental standards, why not have them present in talks?
