Members of Vice President Cheney's staff censored congressional testimony by a top federal official on the health threats posed by global warming.

Former EPA deputy associate administrator Jason K. Burnett said an official from Cheney's office edited out six pages from the testimony of Julie L. Gerberding, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, last October.

Senator Barbara Boxer, who chairs the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, said the administration feared that Gerberding's testimony would force it to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from burning fossil fuels. The White House has opposed mandatory limits and insisted that voluntary measures and increased research are the best way to address the problem.

Frank O'Donnell, who heads the advocacy group Clean Air Watch, said the latest revelations confirm that the vice president has been steering the nation's environmental policy during President Bush's tenure.

"For years, we've suspected that Cheney was the puppeteer for administration policy on global warming," O'Donnell said. "This kiss-and-tell account appears to confirm the worst."

    • You know, until Dick CHeney came into the picture, I tended not believe that people were evil; just affected by varying degrees of psychosis, which manifested itself in acts that were interpreted as evil. Cheney changes all of that, and if anyone on this planet is evil, it is him.
He will lie, cheat, and steal his way through irreputable mounds of data that global warming does indeed exest, all for a quick profit. This man has children who in turn have children of their own-his grand children. They will inherit this polluted and increasingly unstable world when Dickie has moved on to roast in hell, and yet he seems not to care a whit for any of his own blood. I mean, placing profit over the wellfare of people one doesn't know has been done since the beginning of so-called civilisation, but this group of Republican-read rich, old white guys-doesn't even care about their own blood and will trade their futures for a quick profit. If that isn't evil, I don't know what is.

    • What? Is this 1984? White House officials justified the changes by citing doubts about the scientific basis of her testimony. Oh, I see, let's change and delete all questionable testimony given to congress????????

    • There is a judgment day coming and God is keeping tabs on Cheney. His only choice before the great, white throne is to ask for mercy.

    • This man is evil incarnate, I can't believe that neither he nor Bushit have sprouted horns in 8 years. Remember Bushit looking for a VP and asking Cheney to help him and Cheney saying "ok but it isn't me? I think these two had that all planned out to make the republicans want Cheney to be VP. And they still had to steal it in the end.

    • Start the voting process off on the right foot, write your senator and/or local government officials and tell them not to use Dibold voting machines.

    • In my mind there are a couple kinds of evil. The first is the result of a mistake or ignorance. For example, someone accidentally launches a nuke and kills a couple of million people. It's evil, but unintentional. Second, however is malicious evil e.g. evil that is done by a person who is fully cognizant that he/she is doing evil but doesn't care. This is the kind of evil that characterizes Dick Cheney. Maybe he's spent too many years in Washington and has come away with a sense of invulnerability. Maybe something happened in his life that resulted in him hating everything and everybody including himself. Whatever happened, it warped him into the secretive, paranoid, truly evil troll that strolls the halls of power in Washington. This guy is bad news any way you look at him. He is a public official that has no regard, perhaps even disdain, for the general public. He uses his power to enrich his friends, he loves to bomb things and has no sense of responsibility for the consequences of his actions. He is in all probability one of the of the most dangerous men in the world today. If ever there was a person that should be impeached, it is he. The fact that he's still there is a sad testament to a congress that no longer believes it has the ability or obligation to uphold the law.

    • I just want to know how to fix this problem with our government. This sort of behavior is not tolerable... at all!!

Oh and to CTZNWES that's not a snarl, we'd probably be killed on impact if we actually saw Cheney snarling; he's actually smiling :)

    • That's just the tip of the iceberg for the man that Lewis Black ruled "The Root of All Evil" he's been going wild with that "Treated as Secret/SCI" stamp of his and if you think that we'll ever find all the research or reports he's "altered" then "You don't know Dick"

    • NASA also had its environmental findings altered by political appointees. They even denied a scientist from speaking on a radio station about those findings.

    • We all know that Sheeneey belongs in prison for life along with Bushie. Now to get them in there. There must be a way.
