Barack Obama won't rule out Hillary Clinton for vice president

Barack Obama told a potential donor to his campaign that Hillary Rodham Clinton is on his list of possible vice presidential running mates, but that her husband's status as a former president makes matters "complicated."

Jill Iscol, a faithful Democratic donor who was an ardent supporter of Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, said Obama reached out to her because he heard she was unhappy about the way the New York senator had been treated by the Democratic Party and the media.

Iscol turned their phone conversation Thursday to the vice presidency -- something the Obama campaign has refused to discuss publicly. She said she told him that Clinton would be his best running mate.

Obama replied that she is on his list, Iscol recounted, and that it would be a mistake not to have her on such a list. But he also explained that he was thinking through a potential "complication" -- Bill Clinton.

    • I feel that Obama could really benefit from having Her as his vice but it is unlikely to happen. She would bring some much needed experience to his Champaign and would only add to the historical ballot making to the first black president and female vice president. I do see it being a problem for them both because of the things they have said to each other at different debates.

    • At first I was wowed by Obama because he ran such a smooth campaign, but now I think he has proven that he is not cunning enough to do the job all by himself and as much as I dislike saying this I think he needs Clinton.

    • She would not accept it if he really offered... I"m sure they have already discussed it.... There is no one running that will truly protect us... We have to try and require changes and find the right candidate for the next election. If Obama wins, there will be little change... If McCain wins, my 16 year old daughter may be learning to shoot a gun in three years as a draftee... that is not acceptable!

Yes I agree its a nice jesture if Obama helps her pay some of her debt, but would she appreciate it or does she think he "Owes Her"

I agree J_Jammer about your daughter if McCain wins, thats a scary thought, but he is a War Monger like Bush, I think we will be in a war with Iran before Bush gets out of office, God forbid.

      Yeah.

First she states she can deal with the big boys. Then she deals with them and claims they were being mean to her. Uhm.....no, because they are doing what they've always done. It's no different because she's a woman.

She wanted it to be. But all it did was make her look weak.

I agree with you, people needs to get over the fact that Hillary lost, period!

I don't think she will be the VP choice for Obama, not only for the fact that Bill comes along with that package, plus I don't think Hillary and Michelle would get along AT ALL, after all the nasty things Hillary said about Obama in the primary, and I don't think Obama should pay off Hillary's debt, that she ran up herself, by refusing to drop out when she already knew "SHE LOST" and for somebody that earned over $109 million in their 2007 income, isn't hurting for money!
They make their debts, they should pay their debts, just like the rest of us have to do every single day.
Boy I could live nicely on $109 million dollars a year, and I bet alot of other folks could too.

I personally would like to see Joe Biden as Obama's VP choice, Biden has alot of foreign affairs experience, and he's tough!

Sorry my post got so long J_Jammer

I think people should take Obama wanting to help Hillary as a kind and good thing that comes from his heart. He didn't have to help her or at least try to make her debt less. That's the kind of man he is.

I highly doubt that the political process will keep him as kind as he is. He'll change more so than him changing the process itself.

I don't think his wife could get along with her either.

    • With all of Obama's talk about supporting women, creating change in the world and of course, the Planned Parenthood endorsement he received, especially considering he is only the second presidential candidate to ever be endorsed by Planned Parenthood, it would definitely be wise of him to choose a woman as his VP.

If he really does support women and their rights, he will pick a woman VP.

    • I agree that this would be hypocritical of both of them, and a show of weakness on Obama's part. I also think he would stand a fair chance of getting shot if that happened.

    • A woman or a mexican it will be a first any way you cut it.
We need some new blood in the Whitehouse. Eventhough Clinton was there already, it would still be nice to see a differnt kind of Head of State.

    • If Obama was smart, he'd pick Hillary as his running mate....whether they like each other or not. It would help the party big time, and they'd clean up on election day.

    • I hope he does, i hope more that given his recent decisions the superdelegates change their mind but thats unlikely

And Jana "It would be the most hypocritical decision ever after everything they said about each other in the past ... "

as opposed to his decisions to deny public financing, fund churches, "revise" his iraq plan, vote on FISA...just to name a few

Lol, I wish I could bet you on that one.

Hillary will definetly NOT be his VP choice, Barrack is well versed in political speak
"it would be a mistake not to have her on such a list"

simply means that it would alienate Clinton voters if he did not pretend that he was considering her as a VP candidate, despite her ridiculous behavior during the primary (ie. suggesting she would stay in the race as long as possible, because past candidates (30 yrs prior), had been assasinated... what a classy broad).

dude come on, don't be ignorant. When did you become a political guru? It makes sense, they should be on a ticket. Just look at past elections that come close to this one. History repeats itself.

Hmmm... you want in on the bet too ;)? I'm not being ignorant just looking at reality. I believe that Hilary is at the bottom of the list of potential choices as a running mate. Otherwise, why wouldn't he have announced her as a VP right after the primaries were over, to quell the talk that Hilary supporters would vote for McCain over him?

If he thinks there is anyway he can win the election without her on the ticket, he will do it. The campaign between the two was fairly negative and adding Bill Clinton to the mix could create a circus atmosphere to Obama's presidency that I am sure he would like to avoid if possible. Both Obama and Clinton's experience is extremely limited and he would be better served with someone who could better advise him as a VP. Can you seriously imagine Obama asking Hilary for advice on anything?

    • Oh my, would she have to accept the nomination in a stadium with the appointed one too? What arrogance and ego. For anyone to think he would consider her for any other reason but that he can't get the votes she had in the primaries and is only doing it to secure his own aspirations...well, they are truly naive. Personally, I'm not voting in November as it stands now unless he changes his climate change plan and some other things and renounces his vote on FISA. That may change, but as of now I am totally disillusioned and fed up with candidates who do as they please because they think you will have no other choice but to vote for them. How anyone with a moral center and a passion for the law and civil liberties could vote for anyone who voted ours away only because they put party before country baffles me. But it sure is showing me firsthand again how easy it is to cajole the American people with words and false promises and what has actually contributed to the downfall of this Republic.

    • Hope Hillary Clinton will think long and hard about accepting the vp spot if Obama does offer it.

Does she really want such a close association with someone who will promise change, but change his mind whenever there is pressure?

    • While I think Obama could really benefit from Clinton's experience (and votes), I don't think this is ever goign to happen. It would be the most hypocritical decision ever after everything they said about each other in the past ...
