The agency that regulates Mississippi's casinos got pillows, stoves, dinnerware and other items meant for Hurricane Katrina victims. The Mississippi Gaming Commission was among 11 state agencies that received the household items from the state's surplus agency.
A breakdown of what each agency received shows the commission took a coffee maker, a case of pillows, wash kits, two dual-burner stoves, plates and utensils, two cases of hand sanitizers and 20 five-gallon containers.
The Mississippi Department of Corrections also got 20 coffee makers, 15 tents, four cases of pillows, five cases of men's underwear and other supplies.
Sixteen states, including storm-ravaged Mississippi, took the items.

Times were hard at the time of Katrina...times are even harder now...my brothers and sisters, please be prepared as things are rolling out of control...
People that had took things from people that did not have...people that did not need things took from those that did need...this has been occuring for a long time, throughout history...However, that does not make it okay and the time is now to start making a change...Like the great Tupac Shakur said "We need to change the way we live, we need to change the way we eat, and we need to change the way we treat each other"BFAM_RVS

HEY YOU!
before wasting response places on here...
FACT: This is a STATE issue (not Federal) Therefore whether Bush is an idiot isn't pertinent here.
This is neglect above anything else.

In the article it states that these items were federal aide "surplus", issued to federal and state agencies.
So the fed does have a hand in this, but I agree that the President has very little to do with the actual mismanagement.

It's sad to think items I donated, may have simply been thrown in one of the 121 "surplus" trailers and forgotten.

It's tough when the disorganized systems get in the way of such good intentions...although it is nice that people care. All of the reconstruction that has happened after Katrina has been volunteer. We have that to be thankful for, I suppose.

"The Mississippi Gaming Commission was among 11 state agencies that received the household items from the state's surplus agency."
Hmmm, I notice it was the STATE'S SURPLUS AGENCY. not the federal governments. How is this getting pinned n Bush? You people are idiots, heaven forbid that some fingers get pointed at Blanco and Nagin, the 2 who TRULY caused more problems with LA and N.O. Nagin can fuck over the N.O. black community to his hearts content by NOT implementing emergency evacuation procedures, Blanco can stand by and watch it happen without overriding his neglect and all you people can do is point fingers and make racism claims against George Bush. Nice diversionary tactics shifting blame from your beloved democrat failures.

Precisely, there were no where near the problems with Mississippis' hurrican situation, they weren't hit quite as hard but they reacted PRE-emptively, prepared, and executed their plan to help their citizens. None of that took place in N.O. Blind misguided hatred for the sitting President just left him holding the bag for 1 states utter and complete failure while it's neighbor weathered the storm and helped those needed the help. I'm not for 1 minute claiming Bush to be flawless, no one is flawless and situations like Iraq, Katrina, Afghanistan do NOT have blueprints or textbook versions on how to deal with a situation, it's trial by fire regardless of party affiliation. Mistakes HAVE been made and the current administration is absolutely horrid at the PR battle surrounding every obstacle but they're not the demons that the left wing makes them out to be.

"Larry Gregory, executive director of the Mississippi Gaming Commission, could not be reached for comment. But an aide, Becky Clark, said the agency is keeping the items 'in case of another hurricane.'"
Oh wow, so don't help the victims of the current disasters, but keep the supplies just in case another one happens. Lateral thinking right there.

Did you read the article?
This is neglect, not thievery.
I doubt the "millionaires" wanted a case of pillows or 11 coffee makers.
They're millionaires because they're smart with their efforts and time (i.e. not by stealing things that are invaluable to them)

FEMA stored them for two years, labelled them "surplus" and turned them over to anyone other than the folks trying to rebuild their homes and lives.
Another feather in GWB's cap for filling FEMA with his inexperienced, self-serving, desk jockey buddies. - 4 years ago
