Its unbelievable that this was considered a fair trade by the Israelis.Especially infuriating is to see the released men celebrating their"victory".It appears to be just another step in the process which will lead to another murderous war in the region, with the hezbullah cowards once again hiding among the innocents, whose lives will be taken or ruined by the coming conflict. And you can safely bet that it IS coming.

whichever side you choose in this conflict is irrelevant to the fact that the piece is unbalanced. Weak sourcing--It's important in a story like this to hear more voices from the lebanese people who arent hizbullah supporters..a MAJOr proportion of the population doesnt support hizbullah or idolize kuntar..although if you watch this video one thinks that palestinians and israelis idolize the guy..in addition-should one swallow that kuntar was rightly convicted by the israeli government? Also, the war that was "sparked" by the kidnapping is superficial reporting..one may recall that weeks before the kidnapping, war plans were being made-the kidnapping was somewhat of a last straw..definitely some nice shooting in the video though..also the swap may seem lopsided and maybe it is, but one should also remember the israeli governments policy of retrieving every soldier dead or alive, which puts them between a rock and a hard place..having thousands of palestinians and other arabs languishing in their jails means that they have a disproportionate number of bargaining chips so they can cash out when they need to..would have liked to hear from some other israelis-not just a family member...thanks for the video though

Whenever someone posts a story about Arabs dying, (most of) the people on this website like to demonize Israel for it. They ignore the deep conflict in the area and simply conclude that Israel is a monster. But when Israelis die, the story is "one sided" and its "fair payback for bulldozers".
If anything is one-sided, it is your mentalities.

as has been noted by other, the mans crimes are merely alleged, he's made into a monster because it's convenient to israel to do so, not because it's truth.

I am going to tell myself that it was the dog in the picture that wrote this post (though, I am sure I am insulting dogs everywhere).
To advocate genocide and implementation of weapons of mass destruction (i.e. the biological warfare suggested) is a truly contemptible position to take.
I was under the impression those were tactics against which we supposed to be fighting.

I do not see justice in releasing a man who beat a little girl to death with the butt of his rifle especially when he shows no remorse. How can such a man ever be viewed as a hero? I think the anti-Israeli movement looses so much credibility for glorifying this man.

how about the soldiers who routinely target palestinian civilians including children? including bulldozing their houses. I would also mention that the fawning mainstream media routinely calls mccain a hero, but he was shot down while bombing a city full of civilians

haha nice sign off...
I would assume you are not implying that the killing of any innocent civilians is ever justified. Or do you think if Israeli citizens just lined up and let them selfs be killed until the death toll was even everything would be set right? Ironically if this was a story about Israelis bulldozing we might have very similar opinions.

Wow JH being a prick whats new.
Like the VC the terrorist hide amongst the civilian population for protection. John Mccain was destroying the enemy. It is not America's or Israel fault that the enemy chooses to hide near woman and children.

Wow, this pod is so ridiculously one sided it is unbelievable.
The back story to the capture of Israeli soldiers is that Lebanon felt that they had been promised the release of some of their POW's and these promises had not been kept.
Israel has a long history of trying to illegally expand its borders and this conflict is just another chapter in it.
Here are some of the statistics regarding the conflict after Israel used the capture of those two soldiers as a reason to invade south Lebanon.
Lebanese civilians
1,191 dead
4,409 injuredIsraeli civilians:
44 dead
1,489 woundedThe war displaced over 1 million Lebanese and left much of south Lebanon unihabitatible as the Israeli's used cluster bombs (which have been deemed illegal in 111 countries) to blanket the area.
Israel also strategically targeted civilian structures such as bridges, airports and many other structures.
Here is a description from Human Rights Watch
HRW stated that "the IDF struck a large number of private homes of civilian Hezbollah members during the war, as well as various civilian Hezbollah-run institutions such as schools, welfare agencies, banks, shops and political offices."[139][140] However, Israel maintained that the civilian infrastructure was "hijacked" by Hezbollah and used for military purposes,[141] but Amnesty International identified the destruction of entire civilian neighbourhoods and villages by Israeli forces, attacks on bridges with no apparent strategic value, and attacks on infrastructure indispensable to the survival of the civilian population,[122] and questioned whether the "military advantage anticipated from destroying" civilian infrastructure had been "measured against the likely effect on civilians."[142] They also stated that the Israeli actions suggested a "policy of punishing both the Lebanese government and the civilian population."[142]Obviously Lebanon is not innocent in this conflict either, but both sides of the story need to be told.
Very disappointing to see such a blatant one sided pod on current, hope this balances the issue a little.

The reason the civilian casualties are so high in Lebanon is because Hezbollah's militants are heartless. They intentionally stay near school and families for "protection". You saying that is exactly what they want to happen.

Reread my post and try again...

"Obviously Lebanon is not innocent in this conflict either, but both sides of the story need to be told. "
Is that clear enough for you? As I also said, this issue is clearly not one sided, but the pod was. I was simply posing a counterbalance to the pod.

A "civilian member of Hezbollah"? isn't that like a Nazi with a heart of gold? I seem to remember a lot of the news photos of the civilian destruction taken by even Routers were photo shopped, or at least the same structures from different angles and said to be different houses. I do hate to see true Lebanese civilians hurt or killed, but they do need to stand up to these thugs and take their country back.

clay- no not from cnn; this is where the statistics are from
"Report of the Commission of Inquiry on Lebanon pursuant to Human Rights Council resolution S-2/1". United Nations General Assembly (November 23, 2006). Archived from the original on 2007-06-30. Retrieved on 2008-07-13.
Also, I did not offer any opinion in my post, simply facts, Israeli expansion of its borders is in violation of UN treaties, and the lack of factual development of this pod does make it one sided. The pod did not offer a full picture of the conflict and my post was intended to counterbalance the pod which is inherently one sided. Therefor my post is written in the same way to counter the pod and let the readers have both sides of the issue. You can infer whatever you want from the quotes and statistics, they are all from legitimate documented sources.
alliknowis- Hezbollah is made up of both a militia and a political party, hence the term "civilian Hezbollah", generally being a member of a political party alone does not qualify you as an enemy combatant, at least according to the UN (although not true for the U.S. and Israel)
