Researchers at King's college London are now suggesting that the way we MAKE our memories varies between the sexes: specifically that different genes are used while making "connections" in the brain, which make it easier to recall certain information stored somewhere.
In this way, men are better at so called "tactical" recollections, such as "travel directions and trivia", while women form more "emotional" memories, linked to specific people and places of importance, such as "birthdays, wedding anniversaries and details about the world around them."
Any stories from married current users would suppliment this study nicely!

I do remember a whole lot about comic books and movies and books I've read on many different subject matters. I don't remember dates that well...important ones and I'm not someone to use in a party planning thing or any planning for that matter...such as vacations and the like. Ask me what I like but plan it yourself. I'll be no use.

"It is generally accepted that men and women are good at remembering completely different types of information"
It is?? I've never heard of this before.
Also I'm rubbish at dates and great with useless facts.. does that make me a freaky man-girl? :s

Yeah, me too, Purplefox. Man-brained women unite! Seriously though, I think that makes both of us normal people in a complex world that people try to explain away far too dichotomously.

So women have better decision-making and problem-solving abilities? Why don't we just use an all women panel to get us out of Iraq?

People in general who don't do much reading about the brain or psychology take these sort of studies with far too much weight. Gender/race/orientation patterns are not going to be explained away simply by studying one dimension.

Women remember every little slight in your character. And never fail to mention it in an arguement

Our roots are firmly planted in the hunter gatherer tradition. It was once very beneficial for a female to have recollection of just when do these flowers bloom and at what time of the season does this fruit ripen. Males however would have had to have a better sense of direction and spatial relation due to the duties of hunting over long distances.
I have read that in the ancient hunter gatherer societies females were responsible for about 60% of the food source. This higher percentage made them a more valuable asset to the tribe. The farm and plow took this away from them and they are just now getting it back through the industrial revolution.
Women have just recently (within the last 100 years or so) returned to the workforce. Using thier superior communication skills and their attention to detail they have forged their way back into their rightful place as equal in society.

it makes sense, I always remember vivid details when linking events to the ages of my children. Now that I am a grandmother I will probably do this with my grandchildren.
